Introduction
I am a Ph.D. student at Oregon State University researching the use of spent hemp biomass generated from the extraction of industrial hemp producing cannabidiol as a novel candidate for feed ingredient for livestock. To assess the health and safety aspect, I am studying the metabolism of cannabinoids including their pharmacokinetics, rumen modulatory mechanism, and gene regulations via transcriptomic study. I use high-throughput analytical instruments as the main tools in my research.

A rapid progress has been established to replace antibiotics and growth promoter (AGP) in poultry industry, including by using plant eseential oil compounds. To date, essential oils (EO) have long been examined as an alternative growth-promoting additive to improve the performance of broilers. However, the considerable increase in the number of published peer-reviewed articles have generated great information inconsistency, making it difficult to interpret the data under the subjective perspective of the classical review. Using dataset from peer-reviewed journal articles, we performe a meta-analysis to investigate the effects of EO on production performance of broilers. To estimate the output of regression model, we utilized mixed model methodology where doses of EO and antibiotics (AGP) are considered as fixed effects while different studies are classified as random effects. A mixed procedure of ANOVA is also tested to compare least square means different among treatment group.
Project
The mixed pastura between sweet sorghum and stylosanthes can synergize well and is able to optimize the growth and yield of both when plant management efforts are made. One effort to manage the plant is to set the spacing of sweet sorghum and stylosanthes properly. Therefore, it is necessary to do research to know the effect of planting distance of sweet sorghum with legumes of stylosanthes on intercropping planting pattern in order to know which combination produce optimal production.
