There is increasing interest in the potential of microfinance to foster climate change adaptation. However, existing literature over-relies upon theoretical arguments rather than empirical evidence, and until now the emphasis has been on potential positive linkages. We address these weaknesses by empirically examining the role of microfinance in ad...
Slow progress in scaling-up climate finance has emerged as a major bottleneck in international negotiations. Debt relief for climate finance swaps could provide an alternative source for financing mitigation and adaptation action in developing countries.
While most adaptation actions occur at the local level, there is an absence of commitment at the international level to channel adaptation finance to local communities. Without such a commitment, there is a risk that climate finance will continue to support top-down, centralized activities that may struggle to address the needs of vulnerable commun...
Loss and damage is a relative newcomer to the climate change agenda. It has the potential to reinvigorate existing mitigation and adaptation efforts, but this will ultimately require leadership from developed countries and enhanced understanding of several key issues, such as limits to adaptation.
Bangladesh is a country that is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, and a broad range of practices have emerged to adapt to these impacts. The book presents a range of sectors that are affected by the impacts of climate change, such as agriculture, water and health, as well as covering thematic areas relating to responses to climate...
Due to its geophysical and socioeconomic characteristics, Bangladesh is particularly vulnerable to the harmful impacts of climate change. The contributors to this volume generally agree that climate projects should prioritize reducing exposure to loss and damage for the most at-risk populations, infrastructure, and assets. Due to its vulnerability to a wide variety of climate change impacts, Bangladesh has become a laboratory for adaptation and resilience strategies in the developing world. The knowledge shared by experienced practitioners who have a deep understanding of the complex context of this country is an invaluable resource. The International Centre for Clim...
Systematic understanding of adaptation measures utilised by households in developing countries is needed to identify the constraints they face, and the external interventions or adaptation planning needed to overcome them. Understanding of autonomous household adaptation patterns remains underdeveloped. In particular little is known regarding wheth...
This article explores how microfinance institutions are affected by and are
responding to flooding by examining a case study in Satkhira District, Southwest
Bangladesh. We develop a framework for understanding how microfinance
institutions can reduce their vulnerability to climate risks and use the framework to
empirically assess local-level practi...

There is growing interest in the role microfinance could play in facilitating adaptation to climate change. This article contributes to this interest by reviewing the state of the literature on microfinance and climate change adaptation which has two key areas. The first area of the literature focuses on the potential for microfinance to facilitate...
Knowledge could represent both a powerful determinant and indicator of adaptive capacity.

The theme was “Financing Local Adaptation” in recognition of the need to understand how best to finance the growing number of CBA project and programme activities. Roughly 450 people from 58 different countries attended, including r...

Doha marks the first stop on a roadmap to a post-2020 climate regime.
The European Union could pave the way by building bridges with partners
