Currently, 7 named Sarcocystis species infect cattle: Sarcocystis hirsuta , S. cruzi , S. hominis , S. bovifelis , S. heydorni , S. bovini and S. rommeli ; other, unnamed species also infect cattle. Of these parasites of cattle, a complete life cycle description is known only for S. cruzi , the most pathogenic species in cattle. The life cycle of S...

Here, we report the first known outbreak of clinical protozoal myeloencephalitis in naturally infected raccoons by the parasite Sarcocystis neurona. The North American opossum (Didelphis virginiana) and the South American opossum (Didelphis albiventris) are its known definitive hosts. Several other animal species are its intermediate or aberrant ho...

Myxozoans are highly specialized metazoan parasites with a very diverse host range that live on aquatic hosts. In both wild and farm-raised fish, myxozoans are the most frequent parasites. The aim of the current study was to evaluate any myxozoan parasite found in different organs of Schizothorax richardsonii. Live fish were transported with artifi...

Mullets (Mugilidae) are economically important fish in Israel. Two species of mugilids (i.e., the thinlip mullet Chelon ramada and the flathead grey mullet Mugil cephalus) have been stocked in the Sea of Galilee (Lake Kinneret) in order to increase fishermen’s income and lake water quality. These catadromous species do not reproduce in the lake, co...

During the present study, we describe a novel myxozoan that forms plasmodia in the gill filament of Schizothorax esocinus collected from River Jhelum of Kashmir Himalayan region (n = 26). Description of the new species is based on morphology of the myxospore and on partial 18S rDNA gene. The results showed that the plasmodia were large, visible wit...

Out of the total 2600 myxozoan species reported so far, Thelohanellus Kudo, 1933 is the second most prevalent genus comprising of about 150 species after Myxobolus Butschli, 1882 infecting both freshwater and marine fishes. In general, these are mostly histozoic (within the tissues) and sometimes coelozoic (in body cavities). The present paper deal...
Article
Two novel myxosporeans have been identified during the present study namely, Myxobolus upmae sp. nov. infecting gills of Hypophthalmichthys nobilis and Myxobolus hardevi sp. nov. infecting gills of Labeo bata inhabiting Ranjit Sagar Wetland, Punjab (India). The identification was done on the basis of morphological and molecular attributes of the my...

Beekeeping is the maintenance of honey bee colonies, commonly in hives, by humans. It is the rearing of bees in captivity for obtaining honey, bee wax and for artificial pollination. Honey is a natural sweet substance produced by honey bees, from the nectars of plant flowers and honey dew (White, 1969). The present study aim to analysis the physiol...

The present study deals with the morphological and molecular characterization of an amphistomid trematode, Paramphistomum epiclitum Fischoeder (1904) collected from Capra hircus (goat) in Chandigarh using Gower’s carmine stain and investigating nucleotide sequences of 28S ribosomal RNA and internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) gene markers. A total...

A new myxobolid, Thelohanellus gabori (Myxosporea: Myxozoa) parasitizing gill filaments of Crossocheilus latius (Hamilton, 1822) has been described using light microscopy, histopathology, and molecular analyses. A total of 80 live specimens of C. latius were examined, revealing a prevalence of infection of 25.66% (21 of 80 fish sampled). The plasmo...

The sequences of 18S and 28S rDNA have been extensively used as molecular markers to resolve phylogenetic relationships among various myxosporeans infecting fishes. Two novel myxosporeans have been identified during the present study namely, Henneguya latiusii sp. nov. infecting gills of Crossocheilus latius and Myxobolus atkinsoni sp. nov. infecti...
Article
Morphological and molecular characterization of the amphistomid trematode, Gastrothylax crumenifer (Creplin, 1847) Poirier 1883 collected from Capra hircus goat in Chandigarh was carried out using Gower's carmine stain and by investigations on the nucleotide sequences of 28S and internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2). A total of 10 guts of C. hircus...

Question
I got these parasites from eye and intestine of a marine fish.
Thank you.
Question
I have always used Xylene to stain my slides and also in histology during my PhD. But now, I want to to use some Xylene replacements for staining and in histology too. But I am not sure about the results of using Xylene replacements instead of Xylene. Please suggest. Thank you in advance.
