World Health Organization estimates that nutrient deficiency affects more than 2 billion people globally which can only be defeated by a well-balanced diet. Awareness about proper nutrition, nutritive value of food, and balanced dieting practices are the prerequisites toward adopting healthy eating habits. In many developing countries, including In...
Forests are preserved for their enormous functions and ecosystem services that are vital to humankind. Forest soil is the foundation of all these services, which rely on the healthiness of forests. Soil degradation is one of the major disturbances that may severely affect the health of a forest. A healthy forest is one that has resilience to some l...
The present study was an attempt to optimize the regeneration protocols of Stevia rebaudiana (Bert.). Leaf and nodal explants were inoculated in MS medium supplemented with various plant growth regulators in different combinations and concentrations in order to attain direct and indirect regeneration. Among the treatments used, 2 mg/L of indole-3-a...
The Nutritional requirements of trees have received less attention compared to agricultural crops. Tree species provide a long-term investment for many potential benefits for human well-being. Nutritional supplementation is a requisite for improvement in the growth and quality of planting stock. Biofertilizers are a boon for chemical fertilizers, w...
In times of mass destruction and climate change, trees are considered as an easy solution to abating the climate change crisis. Restoration and the renewal of tree crops are indeed crucial. Furthermore, forest trees are acknowledged as the source of raw materials for domestic and industrial wood products, which provide renewable energy, fiber, and...
Estimating carbon footprint of forest operations is essential to budget the environmental impacts of the industry. The study objectives were to a) assess the carbon footprint of whole-tree (WT), cut-to-length (CTL), and hybrid cut-to-length (Hyb CTL) harvesting methods in the Northeastern US; b) assess global warming potential of various processes...
West Bengal contributes significantly to national value in agricultural crop
production, highlighting its critical role in shaping the country’s agrarian
landscape. This article will investigate the many facets of agroforestry in
the state, with a focus on three key aspects. To begin, it examines the
significance and role of agroforestry in fosteri...
The agroforestry system (AFS) is established for on-farm and off-farm revenues both from tree and crop production by utilizing natural resources. In AFS, trees plantation on farms affords various livelihood welfares and environmental sustainability. Earlier and contemporary evidence undoubtedly highlights that AFS is a viable land-use option for al...
The human population is benefited from Agroforestry systems (AFs) and practices since man settled down and learned the cultivation of crops. However, the recognition for ecosystem services provided by AFs is perceived very recently only. Research evidence envisages as a land-use system agroforestry supports ecosystem services like carbon sequestrat...
It has been noticed that Saraca asoca (Roxb. de Wilde) populations are drastically declining in the wild. Conserving such populations is crucial because of the numerous ecological, cultural, and economic values. The purpose of our study was to determine if germination and seedling growth could be improved for globally vulnerable Ashoka populations....
Background: In recent times the micro nutrients were reported to influence the crop growth and productivity. Among them zinc is a vital micronutrient for plants, humans and animals. However, zinc use efficiency mainly depends on methods of zinc fertilization. Although there are many ways to deliver zinc to crops such as soil application, foliar spr...

Hygrophila auriculata (Schumach.) Heine is an underutilized medicinal herb and is native to Indian subcontinent. Very little research has been reported on the species. The species produces seeds with poor viability and low germination; thereby, vegetative propagation techniques are the best alternative. The present study was an attempt to standardi...
Its a Popular Article on Agroforestry and Food Security
Nutritionally rich and medicinally important ethnic plants are valued like never before in this era. Ethnic knowledge harbors many different plants which are less known to modern science. Food can be effectively used as medicine if it's been taken wisely. The global nutraceutical market is growing at a high pace while in India it is evolving and ga...
Managing climate change sustainably is crucial for survival of forests. The ultimate goal of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is to end poverty and improve human welfare without imposing significant costs on earths life supporting systems. The SDGs has a very high potential to be affected by the climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts....
Saraca asoca is well known for its medicinal properties especially in treating gynecological ailments along with bacterial infestations, blood related diseases, skin disorders etc. The dwindling and scattered population in wild along with unscientific harvesting of bark for commercial and pharmaceutical industry has made the species globally vulner...
After nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium, sulphur is the fourth most important nutrients for plant. Sulphur has numerous functions in plant development, ranging from being a structural constituent of macro biomolecules to influencing several physiological processes and abiotic stress tolerance. Despite the fact that sulphur nutrition has been lon...
Urban green spaces are effective extension of carbon sinks in human dominant landscapes to supplement climate change mitigation. There have been several studies on the environmental effects of urbanization, but few studies on the services offered by urban green areas. The current research took place at four urban green sites in Cooch Behar, West Be...
Globally, to meet the increased food demand due to the rapidly expanding population, overuse of nitrogen-based fertilizers is escalating. Unprecedented use of nitrogen besides polluting the environment, it brings about amplified susceptibility to biotic and abiotic stress. Maize is the predominant crop in rainfed regions of Southern Odisha. Hence,...
Biomass bioenergy is an essential source of energy in many parts of rural India. Studies show a large scale fuelwood extraction from the local forests has resulted in the degradation of forest structure and composition. A detailed study on fuel wood species diversity and its utilization pattern is lacking for the Indian Eastern Himalayan region. Th...
Background
Stevia rebaudiana is an economically important medicinal plant that has generated interest among the growers and pharmacologists in terms of its industrial or pharmaceutical value. For the mass production of the seedlings, easy and convenient techniques are lacking while, micro propagation was reported promising but still out of reach at...
Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni), commonly known as a natural sweetener plant or sweet herb grabs the economic and scientific interests owing to its sweetness and therapeutic properties present in its leaves mainly due to the presence of steviol glycosides (SGs), with stevioside being the most abundant, followed by rebaudioside. Stevioside, the most abu...
Woodfordia fruticosa (Dhawai) is an important medicinal gregarious woody shrub having potential for commercial cultivation due to its great demand in domestic and international markets. The present observation is the third instance of a spider feeding on a bat from India. It is interesting to note that in all the three cases the prey was the Pipistrellus sp. This may indicate that large spiders are probably a potential predator of the small-sized bats of the family Vespertilionidae.
