This study assesses the conservation effectiveness of 21 protected areas (PAs) in Northern Morocco, comprising 3 parks and 18 Sites of Ecological and Biological Interest (SBEIs), against five major landscape pressures (LSPs): deforestation, infrastructure extension, agricultural expansion, fires, and population growth. We propose a novel quantitati...
The chemical composition and the antioxidant and antifungal activities of extracts and essential oils (EOs) of Lavandula dentata (Ld) harvested in north of Morocco has been analyzed by team of researchers. The extraction of EOs from the dried leaves with stems was carried out by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC‒MS. The essential components iden...
Dittrichia viscosa, a perennial herb belonging to the Asteraceae family, was collected in a coastal site located in northern Morocco. This study focused on exploring the phytochemical composition and biological activities of essential oils (EOs) and solvents (methanol and acetone) extract of leaves, stems, and flowers. Total phenolic (TPC) and tota...
This ethnobotanical investigation was conducted in the rural commune of Bni Hadifa belonging to the Al Hoceima province (North of Morocco), to inventory the principal medicinal plants traditionally used to treat Covid-19. Ethnobotanical information was recorded from 84 inhabitants aged over 18 years in the different communes of the study area, usin...

Chemical Characterization and Antifungal Activity of Blue Tansy (Tanacetum annuum) Essential Oil and Crude Extracts against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis, an Agent Causing Bayoud Diseas...
Ganoderma lucidum is an extensively famous medicinal mushroom distributed worldwide. Despite being widely grown in Moroccan forests, there are no studies on its nutritional, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical values. Herein, the objective of this study was to investigate the chemical characterization and antimicrobial properties of G. lucidum methano...

Thymus capitatus is a Mediterranean endemic plant commonly known as “Zaïtra” in northern Morocco. As T. capitatus is widely used in traditional medicine and food, this present work aims to investigate the chemical compositions and biological activities of the T. capitatus leaves essential oil (TcLEO), acetonic (TcLAE), and methanolic extract (TcLME...
The present study aimed to investigate the chemical composition, bioactive compounds, and antioxidant activity of two wild edible mushrooms, the honey fungus (Armillaria mellea) and the parasol mushroom (Macrolepiota procera), collected from Northern Morocco (MA) and Portugal (PT). Those species were chosen due to their edibility, nutraceutical, an...
Lactarius sanguifluus is part of the diverse mycological heritage in the Koudiat Taifour forest (a site of biological and ecological interest in the northern region of Morocco), although this fungus is in danger of extinction in this forest. The main objective of the research reported here was to perform an advanced chemical analysis of a methanoli...
The goat rearing in northern Morocco had known a very important evolution with the introduction of European breeds of goats more productive of milk compared to local breeds. Moulds are common contaminants in many traditional dairy products. Some species are responsible for significant economic losses and major public health problems by producing to...
The effects of essential oils (EOs) and their eight major components extracted from five aromatic and medicinal plant (AMP) species on the development of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis, the phytopathogenic fungus responsible for fusarium wilt (referred to as Bayoud in Morocco) on date palm in Moroccan oases (Errachidia region), were studied. T...
The region of M’Diq-Fnideq of Northern Morocco includes a diversified mycological heritage. From about fifty mushroom species harvested in the very degraded Quercus suber forest formation and reforested by the Pinus halepensis, and identified during the year 2018, we conducted a study of Ganoderma lucidum and Macrolepiota procera, two Basidiomycete...
The parasol mushroom (Macrolepiota procera or Lepiota procera (Scop.: Fr.) Singer. Var = Lepiota procera (Fr.)) is an excellent edible basidiomycete mushroom specie from the family Agaricaceae with a large, prominent fruiting body resembling a parasol. This species is present in the cork-oak forest of Maamora (Haimed et al., 2004-2005), but it was...
In vitro micropropagation of Carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua L.) by cotyledonary buds taken from 13 day oldseedlings was attempted on Woody Plant Medium (WPM) supplemented with microelements and Murashige and Skoog (MS) vitamins. Comparison of the effect of four cytokinines (benzylaminopurine, zeatin, kinetin and 2-iP) has shown that seedling growth...
Micropropagation of Ceratonia siliqua (carob) from the apex of 7 days old seedlings was attempted on different growth media based on WPM, Durzan 'modified or not', SH, B5, MS, MS/2, modified Heller, BTM and GD supplemented with microelements, vitamins and MS. Four differents auxins: AIA, AIB, ANA and 2,4D were tested in conjunction with BAP in WPM...
The present study assayed the effect of the fungicides benomyl, methyl-thiophanate, thiabendazole and calcium chloride on fungal decay of pears caused by Alternaria alternata and Penicillium expansum. Both in vitro and in vivo, the efficacy of fungicides alone against the two fungi was shown to be weak and without any practical interest. In vitro,...
