The question was if alcohol and HCN will react with each other. Answer was HCN and KCN are sources of cyanide anion and such a reaction would be a nucleophilic substitution reaction. For nucleophilic substitution to proceed the substrate must have a good leaving group. The hydroxide of alcohol is the poorest leaving group so the reaction is forbidden.
