free publication journals

we are preparing to submit a manuscript in field of plant science. However looking at our current budget we realize we won't be able to afford the common $2000 processing fees charged by most open access journals (all our targeting journals :<). I wonder if there are ways like special searching service that can find suitable free-to-publish journals, either open access or "society" journals?

or can anyone recommend some free-to-publish journals in the field of plant science/biology of IF around 3-6?

On the other hand, is there any other possible solution to publish a manuscript with relatively low cost but without compromising the quality of journal too much? 

EDIT: thanks for some great insight. the manuscript is focused on plant agrobacterium transient expression systems and plant parthenogenesis-related proteins and responses. some of the key aspects will be plant biotechnology and plant-pathogen interactions. We originally targeted plant biotech J and frontier in plant science and etc., but all charged pretty steep.  . If any one can recommend a Free-To-Publish journal with relevant scope, will be greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone, I am new here and would like some assistance to publish my article, which publication is advise? Also, although I understand we have to sign p and submit our paper, it has been very difficult for me to locate how to submit my article.

Most of the journals have started charging heavy amount on the name of APC. I don't think that the amount they are asking is valid from any site.

I encountered a situation where I submitted an article to BMC, but unexpectedly, my preprint was published on ResearchSquare instead. However, I have since withdrawn my article from BMC, and now I need to remove the preprint from ResearchSquare as well, as requested by the new journal. I would appreciate any guidance or advice from individuals who have faced a similar issue on how to handle this situation
