Why do the research trends are "popular" at a time and then they fade away?
For example, research studies concerning part-time farming were famous in 1980s and 90s. Then, this trend was faded and not many recent research studies are found.
Are the research studies in social science influenced by the topics of political importance?

Very True. At present Farmer Producer Companies is a trending topic in India, although the subject was around for over a decade, it did not attract academic interest till recently, and now it is a deluge!
Science continues to undergo significant changes, and this is a challenge for researchers to explore the latest in the world of research
Trending topics have to do with the trending problems. Once these problems are sufficiently discussed and solution are found they cease not to attract the attention of researchers anyone. The emerging problems then become the new trend which inform the direction of research.

La investigacion científica como INVESTIGACIÓN por el arte de INVESTIGAR desde la década del 80 del siglo pasado cambio por factores políticos y demográficos. Hoy dependemos de los fondos concursables que establecen las lineas de investigacion según la política de los gobiernos de paso en cada país, ademas del problema de la globalizacion de las comunicaciones que convierten al planeta en una sola unidad de estudio donde no hay científicos únicos son comunidades y a partir de la ultima década del siglo pasado aparece una nueva población mal llamada MILENIUN que son personas en búsqueda del existimo y resultados inmediatos todo de corto plazo y la obsolescencia del conocimiento y las tecnologías es de máximo 5 años eso implica cambios radicales en lo que se estudia o se quiere estudiar una rigurosa investigacion requiere de décadas pero hoy con la tecnología se puede simular un proceso cambiando los paradigmas de la investigacion. Ademas que aquello que no ofrezca reta no se desarrolla, lamentable que se perdiera el arte de Investigar por Investigar.
