What is the relationship between early math engagement and emergent literacy practices in EC classroom?

Hello,
I am teaching a summer course on Curriculum & Methods: The Emergent Reader and learned the importance of math curriculum on emergent literacy. Could you please share insights about the connections between math in EC and literacy development.

The term emergent mathematics is used to describe how children build mathematics from birth and throughout the life of the individual, it takes place through the integration of cognitive development and the interaction with the environment (Geist, 2009). The notion is similar to the concept of emergent literacy which forms the basis of learning to read and write in pre-school classrooms. It is important that children get introduced to both emergent mathematics and literacy skills as early as birth, this can be achieved through interactions with the caregivers.

Unfortunately I do not work with literacy, but the understanding of mathematics will greatly aid the teaching of science as they are complementary areas.

Dear Oluyomi,
Notably, early math engagement by children has become increasing important in child education. There is a mounting evidential basis supporting the role of mathematics knowledge in the development of children and their later academic achievement. On the other hand, emergent literacy practices refer to children's  knowledge of reading and writing skills  in the process of becoming literate in a literate society. current findings on comparative studies addressing  math and literacy development  of children at kindergarten level reveal that  children's early math experiences such as knowledge of numbers and ordinality  can facilitate future learning. In point of fact , research has consistently indicated that early mathematical proficiency is interlinked with subsequent proficiency not only in mathematics, but also  in reading and writing as well. Fore more information, the following links can hopefully shed light on what you are looking for.
Best of luck,
