What is the best way to go with constructing a Project Initiation Document (PID)?

I am working on constructing a PID for a piece of coursework in Project Management and Field Operations at university for use in my module and would love to get a better understanding of ways I should go about doing this or hear any advice someone might have towards constructing it (I'm not asking you to do the work for me just some added information as to things to consider or look out for).

The PRINCE2 methodology calls for development of a PID as the first document for initiating a project. An on-line search can lead to some templates showing the typical contents of a PID including project objectives, business case, etc. A similar document in the PMI's PMBOK is called the project charter. In my opinion the project charter contains a subset of the information that is typically expected in a PID.
