Question
Asked 16 September 2023

What is the best way of finding a fully-funded PhD position in the area of your choice?

I have completed a master's degree in computer science and have good research experience in the human-computer interface area. I have published 3 IF journals as a first author and 7 IEEE conference articles to date. I am struggling to find a good fully funded PhD position. I am open about the country as well.

Dear Distinguished Colleague,
we would like to extend a sincere invitation for you to join us as a valued member of an international consortium for the CovidSocLab research initiative titled Global ChatGPT Student Survey.
Building on our previous research initiative that examined early student perceptions of ChatGPT, involving approximately 350 international partners and reaching about 23,200 students across around 110 countries and territoriesworldwide, we now aim to explore the evolving perceptions of ChatGPT among higher education students.
Below are references related to a previous research initiative on early student perceptions of ChatGPT:
To ensure consistency and comparability, we developed a comprehensive questionnaire to capture students' perceptions of ChatGPT. The questionnaire covers various aspects related to ChatGPT, including usage, capabilities, regulation and ethical concerns, satisfaction and attitude, study issues and outcomes, skills development, labour market and skills mismatch, and emotions. The questionnaire is available in seven different languages, with separate links for PREVIEW (English, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew) and DATA COLLECTION (English, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew) for each language. All the necessary links to the questionnaire, including the corresponding QR codes, are also available on our webpage: https://www.covidsoclab.org/chatgpt-student-survey/.
The Global ChatGPT Student Survey was reviewed and approved by several relevant Ethics Committees/Institutional Review Boards across multiple countries, including Algeria, Cyprus, Ecuador, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom. Ethical approvals are available.
Your partnership would bring invaluable insights, amplifying student voices worldwide and helping us explore the evolving dynamics between students and generative AI. As a partner, you will play a key role in data collection, ensuring comprehensive representation in this global effort to shape AI in education. Your main task will be to obtain at least 50 valid student responses (fully completed questionnaires) from your institution.
The Global ChatGPT Student Survey will run until 1 February 2025.
By joining the international consortium, you will have the opportunity to: 1) collaborate with leading experts worldwide; 2) contribute to innovative research and influence AI-powered educational tools; 3) access a diverse dataset of cultural contexts and student perspectives; 4) co-author publications and reports based on the research findings; and 5) participate in consortium meetings, workshops, and conferences to share insights and best practices.
We kindly encourage you to share this invitation with your network, including colleagues and friends at your institution and beyond, both nationally and internationally. Your support in spreading the word will help enhance the diversity and representativeness of the data collected, contributing to a deeper understanding of student perspectives worldwide.
If you are interested in participating in the Global ChatGPT Student Survey, please express your interest by completing the application form available HERE (https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=35DMpoD13EmQP4evWnUzjtY1gZdk2MJPqRtvA4z4ugZUMTVXUjVHNlVDREZQRFRaTENHNlJZUzVPSC4u&route=shorturl). Please note that only partners who complete the application form will be included in the international consortium mailing list. If you have any further questions, please contact us by email at info@covidsoclab.org.
Once you confirm, we will include you in the international consortium mailing list, which will help us coordinate further consortium activities.
After confirming your interest by completing the application form, you may immediately begin with the data collection among the students.
All questionnaires are activated for data collection and will remain open until 1 February 2025.
Thank you for considering our invitation to join this ambitious research initiative. We are excited about the prospect of your positive response and the opportunity to collaborate with you.
Warmest regards,
Aleksander Aristovnik

**Looking for Research Collaboration - AI Accelerator Direction**

**Personal Background**: I got a PhD degree from Electrical Engineering at Peking University, currently a postdoc in the U.S., and preparing to pursue a faculty position. I have published 4 first-author conference/journal papers (with IF>8, CCF-A), 2 are under review, and 2 are in the implementation stage. I have led multiple successful tape-outs, with 28nm technology and designs involving millions of transistors. I have modest expectations – I’m not a big shot, just looking to make progress.
**Target Collaborators**: Peers, undergraduates, master’s students, or PhD students. Undergraduates are particularly welcome.
**Research Situation**: I have many mature ideas and solutions that lack the manpower for implementation. These are not just purely algorithmic, far-fetched ideas but are combined with hardware and can demonstrate real results, with a high probability of success. Specifically, the work involves optimizing existing implementations, requiring either training network algorithms or writing hardware modules, with a high likelihood of resulting in strong publications. Alternatively, I already have hardware and need to explore its application scenarios.
**What I Offer**: Co-authorship (with order based on contribution), along with soft support such as research guidance, AI algorithms, hardware implementation, chip tape-out mentoring, recommendations for further education, etc.
**What You Should Offer**: Most importantly, sufficient time to carry out the work (estimated at three months, with an average of 3 hours per day). Secondly, you should have a basic programming foundation or Verilog hardware background, or enjoy conducting research. Ideally, you should not be affiliated with a specific advisor.
Serious inquiries only, thanks.
If convenient, please send your resume for review. Personal information can be omitted.

This multilingual dataset presents 60,127 Instagram posts about Mpox (monkeypox), published between July 23, 2022, and September 5, 2024. This dataset contains Instagram posts about mpox in 52 languages. For each of these posts, the Post ID, Post Description, Date of publication, language, and translated version of the post (translation to English was performed using the Google Translate API) are presented as separate attributes in the dataset.
After developing this dataset, sentiment analysis, hate speech detection, and anxiety or stress detection were also performed.
This process included classifying each post into
  • one of the fine-grain sentiment classes, i.e., fear, surprise, joy, sadness, anger, disgust, or neutral
  • hate or not hate
  • anxiety/stress detected or no anxiety/stress detected
These results are presented as separate attributes in the dataset for the training and testing of machine learning algorithms for sentiment, hate speech, and anxiety or stress detection, as well as for other applications.
The dataset is available at https://zenodo.org/records/13738598, and the paper associated with this dataset is available on Arxiv at https://arxiv.org/abs/2409.05292
The following is a description of the attributes present in this dataset
  • Post ID: Unique ID of each Instagram post
  • Post Description: Complete description of each post in the language in which it was originally published
  • Date: Date of publication in MM/DD/YYYY format
  • Language: Language of the post as detected using the Google Translate API
  • Translated Post Description: Translated version of the post description. All posts which were not in English were translated into English using the Google Translate API. No language translation was performed for English posts.
  • Sentiment: Results of sentiment analysis (using translated Post Description) where each post was classified into one of the sentiment classes: fear, surprise, joy, sadness, anger, disgust, and neutral
  • Hate: Results of hate speech detection (using translated Post Description) where each post was classified as hate or not hate
  • Anxiety or Stress: Results of anxiety or stress detection (using translated Post Description) where each post was classified as stress/anxiety detected or no stress/anxiety detected.
