What is, in your opinion, the role of V.I.Vernadsky in the environmental sciences?
To my mind, V.I. Vernadsky was one of the fathers of the science of geochemistry and the father of biogeochemistry. He modernized conceptualization of the biosphere. His works and ideas were ahead of his time and to a degree, are ahead of our time. I think his works are helpful in our effort toward the goals of sustainability. I will be glad to hear any comment from you, dear colleagues.
Some of my publications related to issues of the biosphere, biogeochemisty and issues covered in scientific legacy of Vernadsky are presented as bibliography in this publication:

Biosphere - the scientific term, concept, and object for studying.
Sergei Andreevich Ostroumov
This term exists in science for years and years. However it is not as popular as the terms: environment, environmental science, ecology, natural resources. Why? What are your thoughts when you think of the term, the biosphere?
Some of my thoughts on the biosphere are written in these research items:

Survey on Peer Review in Earth Sciences: Call for Input
Yanxu Chen
Dear colleagues,
We are a group of early-career researchers from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) conducting a global survey on peer review and scientific publishing in the Earth and climate sciences.
The goal is to better understand the experiences of researchers across career stages who have participated in the peer-review process as authors and reviewers, and to explore opportunities for improving transparency, fairness, and support in the publishing system.
🕒 Estimated time: ~15 minutes
🗓️ Survey open until: June 30, 2025
🔗 Survey link: https://tinyurl.com/peerreview2025
Responses are anonymous. Participants may optionally receive the results or contribute to the analysis. If you’ve ever found yourself frustrated or encouraged by the review process—or simply want to see it evolve—we’d love to hear your input.
Please feel free to share this with others in your network.
With appreciation,
