Hi Rohini,
Empathy, positive reinforcement, be open to all kinds of questions (many students did not get a solid study technique or even basic education skills from their former schools), share not only your knowledge but your experience with it. Do not pretend to know all the answers, invite your students to find them with you. That can be like an academic adventure ;-)

Dear Ms. Rohini Singh
Reviews of a process-product study (Good and Brophy, 2003; Petty, 2006; Stronge, 2007) have typically identified the following 10 characteristics of effective (good) teachers (should have):
1. Clarity of the teacher’s explanations and directions.
2. Establishing a task-oriented classroom climate.
3. Making use of a variety of learning activities.
4. Establishing and maintaining momentum and pace for the lesson.
5. Encouraging pupil participation and getting all pupils involved.
6.Monitoring pupils’ progress and attending quickly to pupils’ needs.
7. Delivering a well-structured and well-organized lesson.
8. Providing pupils with positive and constructive feedback.
9. Ensuring coverage of the educational objectives.
10. Making good and different use of questioning techniques.
In my opinion, these are the competencies that should have a good teacher.
I hope I have been of some help.
Best,
Andrija

But perhaps the most important are individual abilities to be a mentor, empathy and understanding.

Dear Ms. Rohini
Return to your question with great pleasure.
But there are opinions that consider as impossible to integrate in a single human being all the qualities of a good teacher. In a valuable book by the authors that I quote:
(Esteve, J.M., Zarazaga, J.M. E., Franco, S., & Vera, J. (1995), Teachers in the face of social change: repercussions on the evolution of teachers' health (Vol.4), Anthropos Editorial.)
It is criticized with absolute reason the exaggerated expectations that have been built in social ideology about teachers.
The phrase in text says: "In the first discourse, widely reproduced in the cinema and television, and in the initial teacher training centers, an ideal image is used, I prefer to describe it as idyllic, of the teacher and of teaching. In it, the teacher is required to be fundamentally a friend of the student and is asked to be understanding, tolerant patient, objective, fair, kind, humane, competent, well prepared in their subject and pedagogical strategies, good psychologist, intelligent, awake, dialoguing, imaginative, creative, familiar and communicative, honest, and moral, respectful, considerate, impartial, democratic and with cooperative attitudes (El País 17-12-85). In conclusion you are asked to be perfect, or more specifically, that responds to the current social stereotype of all qualities considered positive. Only an exceptional mutant integrating the qualities of Saint Job, Robert Redford, Picasso and Superman would be able to fulfill such demands. "

4. Teaches the material well:
Qualities such as; Interactive, charismatic, organized, challenging, alive, motivating, innovative, and encouraging are a must.

From personal appearance to organized skills and being ready for each day.
It is the most wonderful feeling when a professor makes students feel that they have high and realistic expectations for their success. This gives students the confidence and the motivation to work hard and achieve their goals. Students need to practice what they have learned, they must fail in order to succeed, and a good professor is one who is here the whole time, because if a student fails, it only means that the professor has failed as well.

You did not specify the definition of a professor. Do you mean professor as an academic title? I see a mix of answers about academic and teacher roles. Both do not have to come hand in hand. I had plenty examples of very bad teacher and good academic performer and other way around.
Teacher need not to know! Note that knowledge transfer days are all in the past. Neither is a teacher "sending" or speaking the whole time. In fact the teacher's role is to activate student and sharpen his skills. If student is not willing you can talk, he will sleep. If student is not ready you can be a book of wisdom, he will stare on his phone.
Character of a teacher plays also minor role. Once students know your style and expectations they will adapt a matching coping strategy. Teacher need only behave predictably (integrity).
All the rest of idealizations are probably just one's own projection :)
For an academic researcher part Hamming did a great observation:
In one sentence - be busy with first class research that has an impact, the rest is not worth your time.

Among the main qualities of the good teacher:
1- the good teacher is an accountant for himself:
We mean by accounting that it carries itself to the same standards as its students. The teacher can not do two things, or have double standards. For example, if you do not allow your student to chew gum inside the classroom, then you should not allow yourself to do so.
2- Adaptable Good Teacher:
Adaptive, changes in lessons and activities for reasons or problems not visible. The teacher must be willing to change, not mind him. If half of the class's students do not understand a specific concept, then he can not continue his lesson, but must return quickly in a better way to reinterpret that concept.
3- Good teacher interested:
Attention means making sure that all students are successful. The teacher must discover the individual differences and interests of each student and incorporate in his teaching the elements of communication with each individual.
4 - Good Teacher Rahim:
Because he realizes that his students have their own problems outside of school, so he does what he can to help them overcome these problems. The teacher must take external factors into consideration. For example, if a student loses a loved one, a relative, or a loved one, the teacher must understand this and adjust his or her dealings with that student.
5- Good Teacher Collaborator:
Collaboration means his ability to work effectively, with the principal, other teachers and parents of students, for the benefit of students. The teacher must be able to build cooperative relationships with others even if he does not like it.

The ideal qualities required for a good professor are many! I have selected 10 ideal qualities and mentioned below. It is not a repeat of what Khulood Obaid narrated, but some overlap is evident! While selecting lecturers for university level teaching, the recruitment body must have some mechanism to ascertain that they have these qualities!
1. Passion for teaching: One of the essential qualities of a good teacher is a passion for teaching. This is manifested through their craving for teaching, enthusiasm, originality, sincerity, and feeling for showmanship as well as personal qualities.
2. Love of students: Teachers must be friendly, and they should be able to love their students. Students can share their problems with a caring teacher without any fear or hesitation. Students should love their teachers and when they do love them, they idolize such teachers. Eventually, they will respect the teacher, will do the homework, and ultimately will bring greater outputs and results. Do an introspection, and find out whether you are an ‘approachable’ teacher. Most of all, students should have faith in you to become approachable.
3. Communication and oratory skills: If your communication skills are good, you can deliver the lectures with better skill and results. Undoubtedly, students love to hear a teacher who can speak well.
4. Good personality: Students like teachers with good personality, and this ensures good communication, care, understanding eventually leading to good results. Do not equate personality with beauty or handsomeness. It is more related to your attitude.
5. Deep knowledge: You must love your discipline and the subjects coming under your specialization, and must have deep knowledge in these fields. Expertise in the subject make you morally strong and confident.
6. Good listener: To be a good listener, you should have patience and compassion. Students love teachers who can listen to them as well. When teachers develop this listening quality in themselves, they start to become great teachers.
7. Sense of humour: A teacher with a good senses of humour can sway the students. Good teachers are those who can keep up with their sense of humour, and with their strong communication skills and personality, they can also maintain the discipline of the class.
8. Dynamism : Being dynamic is a way of being a good teacher, leader, and sometimes a student for learning new concepts and ideas in the class room as well as outside.
9. Good language : The teacher must be proficient in the medium of instruction. It is not fair to mix regional languages with English, if English is the medium of teaching. They can improve their speech by listening to radio, TV, English movies, and reading English newspapers.
10. Motivational skills: Competent and talented professors try to identify the motives that activate students, and change their teaching techniques to enhance students’ motivation. Teachers should learn to praise their students for their accomplishments. Take your students as seriously as they take you.
