Training Children to Develop Emotional Intelligence
- Today's world is the world of competition. Parents and teachers and the society has high expectation from children. We cannot keep children away from the effect of globalization and internationalization.
- Children are very familiar with the latest technology and are experiencing the use of it at earlier age. School, society, community and families have accepted the intervention of technology in teaching and in imparting knowledge and education.
- Children have to face stiff competition from getting admission at beginning level. After the child clears his tenth or twelfth grade he has to face competition for admission in college or university. All this lead to stress and pressure on child's well-being. Are we providing them enough knowledge and experience on how to handle their emotional self? Are they capable of handling themselves in situation of emotional turmoil? Can children express their emotions in front of their parents, peer and teachers?
- Child should be able to celebrate his success in harmony and peace. He should be able to focus on his self-development and for that he should be in stable state of mind and he should have sense of self-awareness.
- Emotional intelligence is defined as the capacity to reason with emotion in four areas: to perceive emotion, to integrate it in thought, to understand it and to manage it. An individual can learn and acquire capacity to handle his emotional self.
- Emotional intelligence can be developed through stories, sharing practical life experiences, reading and enacting famous personality, group discussion, healthy debates, reading books on famous personality, role play, forming groups to help the needy, speaking the mind, self-realization, respecting feelings of others, catering the need of the mind by supplying it with useful thoughts rather than unwanted one, developing ability to listen, motivating self and others.
