Petition to save the Leibniz Institute for Solar Physics
As a consequence of a "bad" evaluation last year, when the outcome of the institute was judged between good and excellent, but not outstanding, the Senate of the Leibniz Association recommends that the Federal and State Governments terminate the joint funding of the Leibniz-Institut für Sonnenphysik (KIS, previously known as the Kiepenheuer-Institut für Sonnenphysik) in Freiburg, Germany.
This would be dramatic for the solar physics community in Germany and in Europe, and in the long term for research in astrophysics and beyond. Therefore, the international research community is asked to sign the following petition to support the funding of KIS at an unchanged level:

We know that our star, the Sun loses about 10^-14 of its mass per year as a result of electromagnetic radiation and particle emission. That reduction in mass should show up as a decreasing gravitational red shift. Same thing should happen to entire galaxies. But isn't it true that the galaxies we observe that are farther from Earth are also the younger we see (because light has taken millions of years more to come to us) and, as a consequence the more massive when we consider entire galaxies? (Because we cannot possibly see them as they are, but as they were millions of years ago.) Shouldn't we expect, correspondingly that the gravitational red shift of an observed galaxy will increase with its distance to Earth?
Why doesn't the sunlight make noises on home satellite dishes?

One of my friends asked me a question to which I could not find a clear answer. We know that the sunlight spectrum includes the entire wave frequencies including those (of the order of 1 GHz) that our home satellite dishes receive from the satellites revolving around the earth. However, I have not ever seen/heard that there are noises on TV as home dishes face the sun. Why?
Is it possible that home dishes never face the sun during the entire day?!
If sun is one of the focus of it's eclipse orbital. What is the another focus ?

The increase in solar flares is an indicator of the sun's aging----true or false?

While scientists correctly predicted solar flare activity in the past, current findings indicate that solar flares are rising significantly higher in number and/or intensity and not following the normal curve.
