we are preparing to submit a manuscript in field of plant science. However looking at our current budget we realize we won't be able to afford the common $2000 processing fees charged by most open access journals (all our targeting journals :<). I wonder if there are ways like special searching service that can find suitable free-to-publish journals, either open access or "society" journals?
or can anyone recommend some free-to-publish journals in the field of plant science/biology of IF around 3-6?
On the other hand, is there any other possible solution to publish a manuscript with relatively low cost but without compromising the quality of journal too much?
EDIT: thanks for some great insight. the manuscript is focused on plant agrobacterium transient expression systems and plant parthenogenesis-related proteins and responses. some of the key aspects will be plant biotechnology and plant-pathogen interactions. We originally targeted plant biotech J and frontier in plant science and etc., but all charged pretty steep. . If any one can recommend a Free-To-Publish journal with relevant scope, will be greatly appreciated!
I am also looking for journals with low publication fee. My area of study is on green building development but I realize that the publication charges for journals on sustainability/ sustainable development are very expensive Raju KumharRaju Kumhar
I think the simplest way is to check The Directory of Open Access Journals. In here you can browse the journals by discipline https://doaj.org/subjects, maybe you will find the appropriate journal. Good luck.
Dear Andrew and Subir! thanks for your insights. I updated my question and the manuscript is focused on plant agrobacterium transient expression systems and plant parthenogenesis-related proteins and responses. some of the key aspects will be plant biotechnology and plant-pathogen interactions.

Can anyone tell me about sci open source journal name for remote sensing and geographical information system where a article can be published without publication fee.
If you are looking for a peer-reviewed journal that will not charge you, I think you should look up for suitable journals here: https://www.scimagojr.com/
This service is provided by Elsevier (publisher of Scopus and ScienceDirect) and only includes journals indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science. It also provides useful information about number of citations, impact factor, international collaboration, ratio of cited paper VS uncited papers, etc.
Hi.. There are many age old journals which publish articles free of cost. Explore and find a journal of your choice instead of open access/online/ predatory journals.
Even the journal cannot be open access. We are ready to compromise on open access of our article as we do not have money to pay any kind of fee but the manuscript is ready.
I've created an open space/peer-reviewed journal for researchers and scientists to share their works, let's stop the oligarchy of the few who pursue a dogmatic approach to science. We need to be inclusive in order to foster fringe discoveries too.

Elsevier Journal finder ( https://journalfinder.elsevier.com/) can greatly help to find the right Elsevier Journal in respective field of the manuscript, with information about the impact factor and fees. Elsevier journals used to charge APC when open-access is selected by authors while there are no charges for subscription articles (i.e. the article will only be available to those who will paid and there is an embargo period for the authors to not share the article on platform like researchgate and co. from 6 months to a year).
Hi, Tommy Zhou Most open-access journals are costly (to pay by authors like you), so if you want a free-fee journal, mostly it will not be open access.
To the best of my knowledge, the following journals are free and open access and included in your study area:
I have extracted and compiled necessary information about all academic journals in excel format here. It also mentions which journals are free (subscription available) or paid open access:
I have been through this excercise due to lack of funding for submitting my paper. I tried many journal finders. The best journal finders were of elsevier, wiley and springer. Though this still misses a lot of journals and hence i decided to compile a comprehensive list of such journals.
i started with the InCites journal citation report for an authentic list of journals and their performances and mined the web for their 'publishing' information. After which i compiled a list which mentions which journal is subscription based (free with an embargo or lockin period) and which is paid open access.
You can request the file on the link I shared above. This resource will be of great help for people lacking sufficient funding. Thanks!

Hi, I could recommend a tool, available @ the Elsevier webpage, where you place the manuscript abstract and the system suggests you several journal within that editorial. Many of them are paid, but you can find some of them which are free. Good luck! And ... be patient!
Getting free journals are dependent on your location. For scientists from low and low-medium income country, most journals in Springer and Elsevier are free of charge
These types of questions are increasingly appearing. Probably many scientists and researchers are looking for magazines in which you can quickly publish the results of research. Not all such magazines are widely recognized as reputable, not all are characterized by high recognition in specific science disciplines, not all such magazines publish their scientific papers for free on various online platforms and scientific knowledge bases and do not charge any other fees. The formula of open access to knowledge should enable this. However, only some scientific journals meet these issues.
Below are examples of such magazines. You can publish for free in these magazines. Articles published in these journals are entered in many indexing databases of scientific journals. These magazines are published electronically in PDF and also in printed version.
Below are the websites of three scientific journals that meet these criteria:
- "International Journal of Innovation in Social Sciences and Engineering" (ISSN 2543-7089):
Social sciences, various humanities and exact sciences, also taking into account social, sociological, economic and other aspects:
- "International Journal of Innovation in Social Sciences and Engineering" (ISSN 2543-7089):
Humanities and exact sciences, various fields of science, various types of issues including new technologies, various fields of innovation applications, determinants of innovation development, etc.
I am also looking for journals with low publication fee. My area of study is on green building development but I realize that the publication charges for journals on sustainability/ sustainable development are very expensive Raju KumharRaju Kumhar
