How do I get CSE-CIC-IDS2018 in CSV format?

I have attempted to download CSE-CIC-IDS2018 by using "aws s3 sync --no-sign-request --region ca-central-1 "s3://cse-cic-ids2018/" dest-dir/home" command as mentioned in https://www.unb.ca/cic/datasets/ids-2018.html,
however, when i try this command, it shows me the dataset size about 220.8 GiB, and the first 2 GiB that download are PCAP and Logs in different days ONLY.
in the websit, they said that the dataset are available in CSV format, but I can't find it.

Hi, how do I get the bruteforce-xss_22-02.pcap file from the CSE-CIC-IDS2018 on AWS. Specifically, we can only download the pacp.zip folder, which contains all traffic flow, and how to get one pacp file, for example, bruteforce-xss_22-02.pcap. The preprocessing is mentioned at "https://github.com/sspku-2021/PBCNN". Thank you in advance for your answers.

In September 2018, Google has issued "Google Dataset Search Engine"; it allows researchers from different disciplines to search, locate, and download online datasets that are freely available for use from different application domains.
It could be remarked that, this search engine is still beta version; you may not find all the datasets, but alt least it facilitates the task of finding suitable datasets.

Both CICIDS2017 and CSE-CIC-IDS2018 are IDS-based datasets and they have been created by the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC). Moreover, they contain benign traffic and seven different attack scenarios: Brute-force, Heartbleed, Botnet, DoS, DDoS, Web attacks, and infiltration of the network from inside. Both of them contain 80 features extracted using the CICFlowMeter tool.
The main difference between the two datasets is the time, the size of each one, and the partner, for example, the CSE-CIC-IDS2018 dataset is the result of a collaborative project between the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) and CIC. Moreover, the implemented network of the CSE-CIC-IDS2018 is a common LAN network topology on the Amazon Web Service (AWS) computing platform.

The cleaned dataset of CIC-IDS-2017 and CSE-CIC-IDS-2018 are downloadable in both feather and parquet format for easy and fast usage for machine learning purposes. The repo also contains the scripts used to clean the data.

Miel Verkerken Thank you for your contribution, i would like to ask if you have any valid source that can explain some of the invalid data on some of the data flow atributes, like "Init win bytes forward" with negative numbers? (Mainly on IDS2018) I found out they were result of an issue with the CICFLowmeter, but cant find credible information on it. Thank you.

Hugo Almeida Looking at the source code of CICFlowMeter on GitHub, you can see it relies on the jnetpcap library for parsing the PCAP files. Most probably the pcap file was not parsed correctly by this library.

I am wondering in my researcher article, what dataset should I use and should I clean it before feeding it to the ML model? Thank you in advance.

I m using CICFlowMeter offline version and it is working fine enough . But while trying with Real Time Traffic i m facing issue, After selecting interface it starts listening on that interface. After clicking stop, According to Notification output CSV file is created but actually i don't have any CSV file nor any said directory . If anyone used can guide pls.

Muhammad Asad The specific file you show only contains the recorded data for one day (out of 10) and contains both benign and DDoS samples. You should definitely clean this data before using it in an ML model.
- Remove experiment-specific info such as the timestamp, IP-addresses... A model learning that a DDoS attack only occurs between 14-15h will perform well on this dataset but won't in a real-world setting.
- Fix missing values in the data
- Because the tooling for DDoS will generate many similar network packets the resulting flows contain many duplicates. These duplicates should be removed for a fair evaluation. The picture below shows that cleaning reduced the original number of DDOS-HOIC samples from 686012 to 198861.

Miel Verkerken yes exactly that the original CSV file of the DDoS Attack and I am wondering why the totale number of attack (DDoS) samples are more than the normal/bengin samples.!
However, dear Miel Verkerken is the dataset that you have shared with us good and ready enough to use it in the real ML modle? I mean no need to use the original and clean it again and so on, is that right?

Redhwan Ghailan The number of samples is the result of the choices the creators of the dataset made. I would indeed expect a DDoS attack to generate a lot of network traffic.
I would recommend you use the previously shared data to train your ML models over the raw released datasets for the before mentioned reasons. Also, have a look at the steps performed to obtain this cleaned data.

You can easily read the feather/parquet files to a pandas dataframe like in the example and then export to csv using "to_csv".

Hello, i did that some months ago, but from what i remember, i think download it one by one, since you can see all the folder content with summarize. But then again, i am not certain, but i do have all the files.

Hi!! I have had the same question, I decided to download the whole dataset from the link as you mentioned. In fact at the beggining it says that the size of the whole datset is ~220Gb but in reality when you have downloaded about 200Gb the total size changes and it is manteining the symbol "~" and the sizes keeps increasing along the time.
At the end I realized the dataset weights 452.8Gb!!! And it creates you 2 folders whose names are:
- Original Network Traffic and Log data
- Processed Traffic Data for ML Algorithms
In the second folder you will find the csv format files that you are looking for. Unfortunately you have to wait that the most big file would be downloaded first.
The second file size is 6.41 Gb and if you want I can facilitate it to you.

Specifically, we can only download the pacp.zip folder, which contains all traffic flow, and how to get one pacp file, for example, bruteforce-xss_22-02.pcap.
