How to dissolve PVA in water?
How do I dissolve PVA in water? I would like to make a 1% PVA solution?

For PVA, it depends on the degree of hydrolysis of the material; try ethyl acetate if the degree is relatively low. Some PVAs are also slightly soluble in alcohol (ethyl). Do you have access to the Polymer Handbook (Brandrup and Immergut)? It will have a chapter on solubilities of polymers and you could look up solvents for the individual polymers
PVA is soluble in water but it has to be stirred continuously in water at 90 degree celcius for on hour. A clear viscous solution will be obtained.

It is very easy to prepare a hydrogel from PVA as well as dry PVA film. To dissolve water use 1 gram of PVA in 100 ml of water
Steps to dissolve PVA:
1. Use 1 gram of PVA in 100 ml of water.
2. Use a hot plate with a magnetic stirrer for proper mixing.
3. Maintain the temperature at 100-degree centigrade.
4. Keep speed at 3000 rpm.
5. Wait for 2 hours.
