How to change preprint to article?
I have an article published recently. However, I published a preprint of the earlier version of the published article here at RG in 2017. I hope to change "preprint" to "article' through "edit" to reflect the state of the research related to the early preprint. It seems that I cannot.
How to change preprint to article? please help me.

One of my friends was accused of plagiarism; do you know why?
After about three months, his research paper was rejected because of plagiarism. When he checked the journal report, he found that his paper was accused of plagiarism with a 61% percentage. The reason is that his manuscript was previously uploaded as a preprint. It took him another two months to solve the problem and remove the manuscript from the database of the preprint.
So, in order to solve this type of issue, it may take several months of following up to remove the manuscript from the database of the preprint. Anyhow, If there were accusations of plagiarism, it is not well for any researcher's reputation, in any meaning.

I am afraid Researchgate doesn't allow it:
"We don’t merge articles with their linked data or preprints. We encourage our members to upload their work during all stages of the publication process, so we consider these to be separate research items. Items with a ResearchGate DOI also won't be merged." https://explore.researchgate.net/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=950413
This is a bit annoying, they should come up with a solution.

After adding a new entry for the published version, you may delete the preprint entry or may keep it, just as you like.

It is easy for RG to update from preprint to article to reflect the progress of a research, finally, RG will meet the need of its customers.

Hi everyone,
I'm also having difficulty with this. If we have to add the publication as a new article do we then lose all of the stats on reads/recommends etc?

This makes the option of pre-print sharing on RG far less attractive! Best to only publish articles on RG after full publication so that the stats for the same paper don't get split.

You may use the "Comments" function to refer to the final version from the preprint version, so that attentive readers will find it.

Why you let others know about your insights and methodologies before publication? It is a security issue; the original content of your manuscript may be copied and published by others before you can do that. My advice is not to upload any research anywhere until it has been published with your name.
If you are using your own words, there should be no plagiarism issue. Another important related issue, be careful if you have other co-authors with you. For this reason, I only trust just my own words.

I think Researchgate should construct an EASY facility that will help someone to rationalise one's web page without losing contact with viewing statistics. ie.g. post the published paper and then click on every preprint that should be subsumed by it. Done. My page is a real mess, and I never have thee time to do all the deleting and uploading required in its current form. There is always something much more interesting to do with my research time. I never fear uploading my research drafts for discussion. Ideas are one thing that you can give away and still have for your own .... unless you forget them, as i fear am becoming wont. Best wishes to all :) Frank Lad

I guess sharing the preprint is meaningless. What is the point behind that?

Hayder Ibrahim Mohammed - Dear researcher your logic is not bad . After sharing my all preprints I have understood that It is a hindrence towards increase in RG Score . I have only 4 articles , then questions and ans ie enough to increase my RG score . TRI score is useless which are collected from preprints .

Claire Bone, Did you solved this doubt?
I'm in the same situation, I uploaded some prepints that are now in press, and I thought about changing the file type to preprints to article, but the system doesn't allow me to do it.
I think I will have to upload them again as article.

Just place your preprint article in researchsquare.com .

How do I update the publication for a preprint?
John Paul Currea
I'm trying to update a preprint through the suggested route at the bottom of this page (https://explore.researchgate.net/display/support/Preprints). When I click on 'Add Published Version' pointing to the new publication, I get an error stating that my account doesn't have permission to modify the publication. This might be because I merged two accounts previously, having posted the preprint with my older account. Although I'm not sure. How can I fix this?
