I am doing a research that compares the response rates of research undertaken in South Africa with those undertaken outside South Africa with the view of identifying cultural nuances that impact the research process particularly the data collection process. I would be grateful if you could just share with me the following details:
1. Where was your research conducted?
2. What was the response rate of respondents? 
3. How hard or how easy was it to find willing participants for your research.

Grounded theory as developed by Anselm Strauss is rooted in information received from ordinary citizens which it is argued provides useful insights into issues in societies. This perspective is also supported by the Brazilian educator and sociologist Paulo Friere, Karl Polanyi and the Interpretivist approaches of Max Webers Social Action Theory, Husserl's Phenomenology and Schultz' Ethnomethodological Perspective. I would not mind contributing an article/chapter for the proposed book.

I am interested in research at the intersections of media studies, public policy, social intervention, popular culture, activism, critical theory, art history, etc. Please share any relevant references. 
One specific question: The city and residents of Baltimore were central to The Wire's themes and production. Members of various communities became involved with the show as actors, some with no previous acting experience. Did the show's presence have any lasting impact on the city or any particular group of residents?

I often read research articles that do not appropriate describe the sampling procedure. For example, the authors mention that the sampling was accidental or purposive but they don’t explain why they had only 10 participants or they say that the sampling was theoretical and describe the a priori established socio-demographic characteristics of their subjects.
I think that the sampling procedure is one of the most important elements of a research. I think that the research should be evaluated according to this procedure and I think that many pieces of research should be rejected because of sampling not being appropriate.
Please help me to clarify this and correct me if I am wrong:
The sampling procedure should state the sampling criteria and should justify the number of participants.
There are two kinds of sampling in social research: statistical – probability or non-probability (when the sampling criteria and the number of participants are established before entering the field according to some rigid sampling rules) and theoretical (when the sampling criteria and the number of participants are flexible, decided in the research process according to relevancy and saturation rules).
