Design Guidelines for Augmented Reality Displays?
I am wondering if anyone has looked into design guidelines for AR displays? Some of the current AR designs I have seen are still focused on a desktop metaphor. My use of AR, e.g., HoloLens, leads me to believe that this is not the best approach. Have others looked into this?

Somewhat related for anyone who already owns Hololens: We hada case of broken headband (it disconnected from the rest of the headset) and my colleague Ryan Lee fixed it with custome-made 3D printed clasp. Here is advice how to fix it with a help of 3D printer: Manual http://www.movesinstitute.org/~amela/Resources/Hololens-Repair-byRLee-NPS-2018-02-01.pdf, and STL files: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2778630 . Hope this helps.

I never read anything specific to use of Hololens .

We are working on precisely this question; so, I will follow this thread closely. In fact, we want to work with NASA and Goddard. Will look for links to HoloLens.

Some data from a prototype:
Picture distace: 15m (fix)
Viewing angle 9°x4.5° corrisponds to 2250mm x 1200mm
Look-Down Angle: 2.7°
Look-Right Angle: 1.5°

Thanks for the responses. I use HoloLens as an example but I am actually interested in a more general sense. As I mentioned, believe that a desktop metaphor does not work with VR/AR designs. For example, when using VR/AR does it make sense to visualize folders and windows, does it make sense to have a mouse and require clicking motions by hand or with some 3rd party device. As a Human Factors Design Engineer working in the area of user experience I am keenly interested in what makes sense for the user.
Claudia - Thanks for the document link. I have not had a chance to look at it but it is high on my reading list
Craig - It is good to see a University exploring this. I look forward to seeing what your team discovers.
