Communication vs Knowledge Management

In recent days, in some of the organisations, especially in absence of strong knowledge management (KM) professionals, I have seen communications specialists misinterpreting the whole concept of knowledge management and trying to present KM as same as communication ignoring different stages of KM process and focusing only on knowledge sharing and communication aspect. is it common in your organisation as well? How do you tackle such difficult dynamics as a sincere KM person? or how do you maintain different identity of communication and KM as an expert ?
