Can a case study research design include a single 'main case' and several other cases that are investigated in less detail?
My current intent is to conduct a single case study on what might be considered an 'extreme positive' case (everything went well). I would like to include some 'theoretical replication' - some other cases that demonstrate failure as a result of certain conditions. But I do not have time to conduct a full investigation into several cases. Is it a valid approach to include what would be mini-case studies (possibly little more than a few vignettes) to achieve the theoretical replication?
