Question
Asked 23 October 2018

Can innovations be or can be created by artificial intelligence or only by human?

New ideas, new concepts in science and art arise as a result of human creativity, innovation, emotional intelligence, the need for self-realization, the need to be appreciated by other people.
These are the values at the very top of Maslov's pyramid. Human higher needs arose through the evolution of human consciousness and intelligence under conditions of multi-generational development of sociobiological and psychosocial determinants.
On the other hand, artificial intelligence is being developed, which will probably be used in various fields of technological information services, including multi-criteria, based on complex data processing algorithms.
In view of the above, the current question is: Can innovations be or can be created by artificial intelligence or only by man?
Please, answer, comments.
I invite you to the discussion.

To my (limited) knowledge there exist some algorithms have learnt to chat (Facebook's Dialog Negotiator: https://code.fb.com/ml-applications/deal-or-no-deal-training-ai-bots-to-negotiate/ ). Typically these algorithms are designed to mimic cognitive tasks that are typical of the human species.
Similarly, innovation is a cognitive task. The Design Community has been trying to develop tools that supplement and supplant the cognitive task of innovation (and ideation) for some time, under the theme of computer based design synthesis.

An invention can be a discovery, a product of the imagination, and even a falsehood. An innovation usually refers to something that is new, capable of being implemented, and begets valuable outcomes from meeting explicit or latent needs; from that perspective, innovation cannot be considered to be an event or activity but, rather, a concept, process, practice, and capability; and so, it is unlikely to be dreamed up by artificial intelligence. That said, responses to this query will very much hang on other definitions.

Innovation can be created by human being as well as AI. In coming years AI will find more useful in creation of innovations!

I agree that Artificial Intelligence could contribute to finding new ideas; e.g. scanning deficits of existing systems, products, and the like, compare and conduct research and polls and come to conclusions. But I hold the belief that there is a big emotional aspect included in creating new products for example, and this is something that we need human ability for.

I believe that AI tools could be developed and used to improve the creativity of people, and that we should increase our efforts in developing technology and tools that could enhance and help us improve our problem solving capabilities. We should be careful to distinguish the difference between developing new tools that could help us improve our problem solving capabilities, and trying to develop tools that could make solutions for us. Creativity is an inherently human behavior which we should aim to nurture and enhance, and thus developing tools that allow us to do so is extremely important, as creativity is the pathway that allow us to be finders of solutions and ever evolving beings. Technology has been a great tool that has helped us evolve and keep moving forward through time, and thus I believe it will continue to be. On the other hand, I believe Technology will never reach the point where it will be able to be "creative" on its own, and that we shouldn't aim towards that course as we would actually be in danger of loosing one of the most fundamental traits that makes us actually human.

I also believe that in the context of creating the next generations of artificial intelligence technologies and learning machines, the possibilities of creativity appropriately programmed by man, e.g. robots equipped with these technologies, will gradually increase.
What do you think about it?

It is human beings that created AI in the first place. Then AI can be used to program an autonomous system that can create other applications. My worry is always, will human beings lose control of their creations?

Dear Okuthe P Kogeda, Yes, the topic is topical, developmental and forward-looking. Man is the creator of artificial intelligence, which finds more and more applications in various branches and sectors of the economy. On the one hand, the directions of development of artificial intelligence, its applications and other aspects are the result of human planning processes. On the other hand, the next stages of automation of manufacturing processes will be carried out through the use of artificial intelligence. Manufacturing processes, machines, devices, means of transport, robots, etc. will, thanks to artificial intelligence and technology, obtain an ever higher level of autonomy by learning machines. Therefore, the risk of the potential development of artificial intelligence escaping from human control may increase.
Feel free to discuss other topics together.

Artificial intelligence may cause major changes in labor markets in the future. The reason will be that artificial intelligence is replacing some professions and professions performed by people. The activities and professions of people in which innovation, creativity, artistry and various types of unique creativity are of key importance are less threatened by these changes. However, if an artificial intelligence is created in the future, which will also be able to create creative solutions and artistic works similar to human creativity, then the above-mentioned threats and changes in the labor markets will be more.

Innovations could be created by following a certain procedure. This procedure could be coded into the computer and then used to generate inventions. Beginning in 1946 and still evolving, such a procedure, TRIZ, was developed by the Soviet inventor Genrich Altshuller and his colleagues. At that time, AI did not exist yet, and the term "artificial intelligence" was not coined yet. See the history of the TRIZ, for example, here - https://www.researchgate.net/publication/332935983_A_Brief_History_of_TRIZ.
TRIZ is used across the globe. For example, Samsung is using it.
Of course, AI will make it better.

How AI fights fraud in the telecom industry
In past practice, the telecom industry handled fraud complaints manually. Unfortunately, manual investigations of fraud consumed considerable time before fraud patterns could be identified. By that time, the damage was done.
With artificial intelligence (AI), there is a new approach to fraud detection that not only reduces time to discovery, but limits the window for fraud losses.
AI makes it easier to identify changes in known fraud patterns because it uses machine learning (ML). With ML, AI fraud detection models can adapt and create new rules for fraud detection, which in turn reduce the exposure to fraud and monetary losses...

The idea of innovation is largely associated with human creativity. Though, significant advances have been attained in computer technologies in terms of programming and algorithms, which are actually based on human ingenuity in computer engineering. Granted that artificial intelligence relies essentially on software programming which is again, an innovative efforts of humans, it is therefore human beings that create. This is not a denial of the fact that some artificial intelligences are so sophisticated in their programming architectures, that they could reason and logical take independent decisions and actions that benefit people. My point is that such a system with cutting-edge ability to think and act independently are only created by humans, hence without human resource such artificial intelligence will not even exist . Based on this fundamental view, innovation is all about human creativity, and not artificial intelligence. Your veiw may differ though.

One of the areas that are among the greatest future achievements of the 21st century is the creation of artificial intelligence, which will find applications in various types of information systems used in industry and information services, processing huge data sets, Big Data database systems, forecasting and managing complex organizations. Currently, innovations are being created in various fields of production and services, generation of new technological solutions. New technological solutions, including technical, product, process, organizational and other innovations in their essence are the result of creativity and creative ingenuity of inventors. If innovation is inseparably connected with the human need of creativity of intelligence and perhaps also some kind of artistry, then whether artificial intelligence in the future will be able to replace man in these types of human creative activity. Will artificial intelligence be able to learn artistry in the matter of generating innovative technological solutions, will it create innovative technologies according to strictly or generally defined determinants, defined variables, determined factors? Will artificial intelligence be able to generate innovative technologies as a response to the question asked for the Smart Data database system?

Can a generative artificial intelligence refined by learning processes o be as creative as a human?
Can a generative artificial intelligence refined by learning processes be as creative as human creativity since thought processes, consciousness, emotions etc. are also involved in human creativity?
On the one hand, artificial intelligence technology is developing rapidly due to emerging new applications and dynamic technological advances. The very conception, definition and development of artificial intelligence on the basis of the third technological revolution already started several decades emu. However, the significant acceleration of the development of various solutions and applications of artificial intelligence in the context of the current fourth technological revolution has occurred over the last few years. In contrast, a significant increase in public interest in this issue has occurred in the last few months, i.e. since November 2022, when the company OpenAI made available in open access to Internet users an artificial intelligence built in the formulation of a generative language model as ChatGPT, i.e. an automated chat that learns and improves itself based on the answers given to Internet users who ask questions in relation to this system. Many citizens, through a kind of conversation with ChatGPT, i.e. a conversation with an artificial intelligence, began to experience something that could be compared to what they saw many years ago in, for example, Stanley Kubrick's 1968 Oscar-winning science fiction film '2001: A Space Odyssey'. The film's plot was inspired by the novel by Arthur C. Clarke.
However, this development also generates potential risks and dangers of inappropriate application of as much advanced artificial intelligence technology. An example is the already developing disinformation in the new online media, including mainly social media, generated by the creation and posting in these media of texts, photos, films created by artificial intelligence, which look as if they were created by a human being and present a kind of "fictitious facts", i.e. very credibly and precisely depict, describe events that in reality never happened. And what if, as part of the technological advances taking place, artificial intelligence is taught the thought processes typical of humans? What if something that could be described as artificial consciousness is created? What if, as part of the aforementioned thought processes carried out by artificial intelligence enriched with artificial consciousness, autonomous, thinking robots are created that acquire characteristics hitherto considered typical only of humans? What if these are also features of the human psyche, and which artificial intelligence could use as a tool for self-improvement, to escape human control? Would then a scenario like the one we know from the Terminator series of films, in which the main character is an autonomous, intelligent robot played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, be possible? Is it possible that highly intelligent machines, which humans will teach to think and equip with what will be described as artificial consciousness, will completely spin out of control and turn against their creator, i.e. humans? for the moment, these are questions that inspire paraphilosophical considerations. But it cannot be ruled out that soon these questions could be more substantively justified.
In view of the above, I address the following question to the esteemed community of scientists and researchers:
Can a generative artificial intelligence perfected by learning processes be as creative as human creativity since thought processes, consciousness, emotions, etc. are also involved in the process of human creativity?
And what is your opinion on this?
What is your opinion on this subject?

I invite you all to discuss,
Thank you very much,
Warm regards,
