After accessing Larry Squire (2015) paper titled "conscious and unconscious memory systems" I became interested on looking for other works that discusses about criteria for a proper disctinction between conscious and unconcious memory systems. Does anyone suggests other works that approaches that matter?

I am currently searching the literature on imagination and memory for a reference to suggest that people use selective memory/recall as a strategy for imagination. So far all I can find has said the exact opposite- that people use imagination as a strategy for memory recall tasks.  In other words, I'm looking for some literature to support that when people imagine an event, they are likely to build that imagination with selected memories of real events.  Let me know if such a study exists that you know of!
