Biosphere - the scientific term, concept, and object for studying.

This term exists in science for years and years. However it is not as popular as the terms: environment, environmental science, ecology, natural resources. Why? What are your thoughts when you think of the term, the biosphere?
Some of my thoughts on the biosphere are written in these research items:
Some of my publications related to issues of the biosphere are presented here:

A professional stance on the biosphere can be based on its crucial role in maintaining life on Earth and its connection to all biological, chemical, and physical processes on the planet. The biosphere, as described by Vernadsky, encompasses all ecosystems, organisms, and their interactions that allow the circulation of matter and energy.
In the contemporary context, the biosphere has become a central concept in ecology and environmental protection because it is recognized that human activity has greatly disturbed the balance of these systems. Compared to other terms like environment, ecology, and natural resources, the biosphere is sometimes overlooked because it can be seen as a more abstract and broader concept, implying the interconnectedness of all ecological and biological systems on a global level.
My view is that the biosphere should gain more prominence in scientific and societal discourse, as it offers a fundamental understanding of the complexity of the relationship between life and the surrounding world, which is crucial for sustainability. Understanding the biosphere as an interactive system, where all biotic and abiotic factors are connected, can contribute to better approaches in addressing ecological issues such as climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.
The works you mentioned, such as those by S.A. Ostroumov, further highlight the importance of interactions between organisms and the biosphere, as well as the role of detritus in detoxification, which is a key topic for a better understanding of the biosphere's role in maintaining ecological balance. I believe that promoting the concept of the biosphere within the scientific and educational community could contribute to a better understanding of the challenges we face in an era of global ecological changes.

The Earth System consists of four great realms: The lithosphere, the hydrosphere, the atmosphere and the biosphere. The biosphere can be divided into the oceanic biosphere and the continental or terrestrial biosphere.
Hope this helps, Alastair.

@Dragan Ugrinov, @Alastair Bain McDonald, Thank you very much for your valuable replies, for sharing your thoughts. It is my honor and pleasure to recommend them. I started thinking about your replies. I want to better understand the variety of opinions about the biosphere. I will be happy to hear any comments from you and other colleagues on my thoughts that I presented in my publications on the biosphere, namely, three of my publications related to issues of the biosphere are presented here:

Ostroumov’s approach to studying the biosphere provides new insights into chemical-biotic interactions and the role of organisms in ecological processes.
  1. The Study of the Biosphere and Chemical-Biotic Interactions (2016) emphasizes the importance of interactions between chemical substances and living organisms. This work is valuable for a deeper understanding of how both anthropogenic and natural substances affect ecosystems.
  2. Additions to Vernadsky’s Concepts on the Biosphere (2019) offer new considerations and expand upon classical ideas of the biosphere, which is important for modern environmental science. Particularly noteworthy is the examination of new aspects of the role of living organisms in global processes.
  3. New Aspects of the Role of Organisms and Detritus in the Detoxification System of the Biosphere (2018) highlights the crucial function of detritus and organisms in the natural purification mechanisms of ecosystems. This study contributes to a better understanding of how the biosphere maintains its balance in the presence of pollutants.
These three works collectively contribute to a broader perspective on the biosphere, connecting classical and modern concepts, with a particular focus on biotic and chemical interactions. This research is valuable for ecological studies and environmental protection.

The biosphere is Earth and its atmosphere. It is where organisms (life) exists; (ie) the area below, on, and above Earth. It is a narrow zone on the surface of the earth where soil, water, and air combine to sustain life. Life can only occur in this zone.
The list of other names used for this zone is likely to break the entire system down to manageable for research and science ecosystems. It also allows for different branches of science to focus on different realms like..... atmosphere, fauna, botany, water, geofunctioning, materials, chemistry, and the like

@ David Buck, I recommended your answer. I thank you for your contribution. I am totally dissatisfied with the absence of a clear scientific definition, clear identification of what is the biosphere. You helped me a lot to identify the reason of my dissatisfaction! Look: you used absolutely different words trying to identify what is the biosphere: zone; organisms; ecosystems; atmosphere; chemistry; water; geofunctioning; materials;- totally different things! You helped me a lot to formulate what I see as a serious problem: we have no clear understanding of a very important scientific word, term, natural object!
You are an excellent experienced expert. And if we think of what is in the heads of non-experts, who are general public, just members of human society, just journalists… Perhaps it is the mist, fog and total confusion!!

To my mind, V.I. Vernadsky was one of the fathers of the science of geochemistry and the father of biogeochemistry. He modernized conceptualization of the biosphere. His works and ideas were ahead of his time and to a degree, are ahead of our time. I think his works are helpful in our effort toward the goals of sustainability. I will be glad to hear any comment from you, dear colleagues.
Some of my publications related to issues of the biosphere, biogeochemisty and issues covered in scientific legacy of Vernadsky are presented as bibliography in this publication:
