Rapid urbanization and creation of employment scopes by industries like Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and Bangabandhu hi-tech park in Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is becoming an appealing place for commuter workers in the North-West regions of Bangladesh. But, due to the loopholes in national law, wrong practice of power making and unawareness of their basic labor rights the situation worse for the commuter workers, facing mistreatment and unfair wage from their Mahajans. Research and studies on commuter workers have only focused on their travel behaviors but failed to signify their livelihood condition. So, to accomplish this goal authors have identified the Sociodemographic pattern (Living Conditions, Job availability, Opportunities and Constraints, Connections and Major problems) of inter-commuting people as proposed recommendations and strategies on the basis of the findings using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools. Authors have also identified major push and pull factors of commuting: low salary in their area and proximity to RCC. To give recommendation, Analytic Hierarchy Process Method has been utilized merging local proposals and expert’s recommendations. where, creating community-based organization (CBO) and registration of commuter workers have been ranked as the most weighted strategies. The study will help the policy makers to identify the loopholes in their existing strategies and enhance the living condition of commuter workers.
Tourism and community participation can help any place become economically prosperous in several ways. Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) is a very useful tool for data collection and evaluating community-based tourism (CBT) related data. This study has been carried out in Natore Zilla, Bangladesh named Natore Rajbari and Uttara Ganabhaban (heritage) which are not exactly in a core urban area. The study aims to find out the problems and challenges of local stakeholders' activities and the impact on their socioeconomic condition. It is applied to different PRA tools like Social Map, Key Informants, Historical Timelines, Seasonal Diagrams, Matrix Ranking, Cause effect Diagram, Pair-wise ranking, and Dream Map for collecting information from the stakeholders who are directly or indirectly involved in tourism. At the time of application of PRA tools, it had been found that for both the researcher and the rural community, the PRA tools seemed to be a very useful, simple but effective research tool for an engineering research tool. After investigating the information, it was found that the stakeholders cannot profit from the tourism industry due to less accessibility of the places and the arrival of the tourists is not even all over the year. It is crucial that archeological structures should be preserved, and that local stakeholders contribute politely to ensure their socioeconomic success. The area can benefit enormously from this research's contribution to its further development.
