Centre for Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Research - CREIS

About the lab

The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Research (CREIS) was created to generate knowledge around the entrepreneurship and social innovation fields, obtaining data and analyzing this phenomenon in depth, with an interdisciplinary team of researchers. The CREIS began its activity in July 2019, within the Department of Business (Faculty of Economics and Business), and it responds to the desire to become an academic reference in this field of study. In addition, the CREIS emerges as one of the pillars of a larger project, the Espai Innova en Emprenedoria Social (eines, Innovation space in Social Entrepreneurship) where research will be complemented with training and the transfer of knowledge to society. Open Social Innovation (OSI) has garnered significant attention in recent years as a collaborative approach to addressing societal challenges. However, the field remains fragmented, with divergent definitions, methods, and theoretical underpinnings across disciplines. Through bibliometric and multi-level content analysis, we analyze 115 studies to address these tensions and propose a systems-based framework that bridges conceptual and practical divides. We map the intellectual structure and synthesize OSI research's antecedents, processes, relationships , and outcomes. Unlike prior reviews focused on particular OSI initiatives (e.g., Living Labs) or single levels of analysis, our study integrates dispersed knowledge to highlight actionable insights for practitioners and policymakers. Finally, our review establishes a thematic agenda for future research, targeting multi-level investigations into OSI drivers, mechanisms, and impacts.
This book focuses on Circular Entrepreneurship (CEship), which is described as the process of exploring and exploiting opportunities in the circular economy domain. In business terms, as the circular economy is considered a strategy to achieve sustainable outcomes (Geissdoerfer et al., 2020), CEship is a form of sustainable entrepreneurship. It includes interactions and collaboration with other actors in the ecosystem, regional governance and determinants, and technological resources. Based on this discussion, the aim of the book is twofold. First, we discuss CEship ecosystem specificities from different theories and how these approaches shape the efforts to explain CEship. Second, we discuss the challenges faced by different geographic contexts, and what has worked and what has not worked for the development of CEship in each context.
This introduction chapter aims to discuss the circular entrepreneurship (CEship) ecosystems, theories, and approaches. This book includes eleven chapters that all be related to the most cutting-edge and circularity-enabled entrepreneurship ecosystems. An overview of each chapter is mentioned highlighting its goals and contributions to novel CEship theory and practice. The book will highlight innovative thinking, best practices for CEship ecosystems in progressive spheres, impact in uncertain times, and shaping public policy.
We systematically review social entrepreneurship literature to analyse how the notion of well-being is perceived. We found that well-being in social entrepreneurship is accounted for in two forms: self-oriented and other-oriented. Our review indicates that both hedonic and eudaimonic well-being have received significant research attention, although the latter has gained more prominence. We found that negative well-being resulting from social entrepreneurial interventions is a matter of concern. Apart from critically synthesizing the literature, this paper offers a number of avenues for future research connecting wellbeing and social entrepreneurship
