CREST project aims to help vulnerable urban areas to set-up and roll-out collaborative platforms based on a breakthrough Augmented reality technology and co-creation approaches to support environmental decision making and innovative policy practices, enabling robust and resilient responses to climate change. The project will pilot a ground-breaking way to operate digital twins of cities, enabling data and “what-if” scenarios to be analysed and visualised in an interactive and immersive visualisation tool to be used by policy-makers, researchers, companies and citizens in 3 European urban areas: Kołobrzeg, Bourdeux i Møre og Romsdal.
CREST consortium involves eight partner institutions from Poland, France, Norway and France. The research will be conducted in 2022-2024. Principal Investigator for the Polish study site is Prof. Bogna Gawrońska-Nowak. The project is co-financed by National Research Agencies and European Commission within ERA-NET Cofund Urban Transformation Capacities Call (ENUTC).
CREST applies digital twins approach in terms of demonstration, co-creation and mobilization of stakeholders for capacity-building and collective decision-making. This will help respond to the EU agenda on Urban Transformation and achieve the UN SDG goals.

Niniejsze opracowanie powstało jako rezultat studiów literaturowych oraz analiz empirycznych przeprowadzonych podczas realizacji projektu pt. Nowy model urbanizacji w Polsce – praktyczne wdrożenie zasad odpowiedzialnej urbanizacji oraz miasta zwartego (Gospostrateg 1/384689/20/NCBR/2019), współfinansowanego przez Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozwoju w ramach Strategicznego Programu Badań Naukowych i Prac Rozwojowych „Społeczny i gospodarczy rozwój Polski w warunkach globalizujących się rynków” – GOSPOSTRATEG. W prezentowanych rozważaniach autorzy proponują nowe podejście do delimitacji miejskich obszarów funkcjonalnych w Polsce oraz starają się – w sposób możliwie aktualny i kompleksowy - omówić determinanty oraz efekty sub- i dezurbanizacji, zjawisk kształtujących społeczno-ekonomiczną tkankę tych obszarów. Wyróżniki opracowania stanowią: wykorzystanie nowoczesnych metod ekonometrycznych, troska o zachowanie interdyscyplinarnego spojrzenia na badane zjawiska w ramach nauk społecznych, a także różnorodność empirycznego materiału (z zachowaniem zarówno ilościowego jak i jakościowego rygoru).

This book tackles the disconnect between social perceptions and expert knowledge regarding trade policy decisions. Using a Polish language internet database,
the authors shed light on areas that need to be addressed when considering the
adoption of particular trade policies by applying content and statistical analysis
to produce an easy to deploy measure of populism in digital media, the “Media
Populism Ratio”.
Defining a mismatch between social perception and expert knowledge may contribute to a better understanding of the controversies on free trade, as well as
properly defining possible sources of populism and social conflicts – therefore
also revealing some potential weaknesses in the trade policy implementation
the level which are at times neglected or underestimated. The book will be relevant
to students and researchers interested in economic policy, economic narratives
and cultural economics.
We assess the relationship between citizens’ participation in scientific research and public trust in research results within social sciences. We conduct an online citizen science quasi-experiment concerning the delineation of metropolitan areas of Poland’s two major cities. It consists of two stages. In stage one, participants in one region are exposed to citizen science and directly involved in delineating the boundaries of their local metropolitan area. In stage two, we add another region in which participants are not involved in the research process. In both regions we ask the participants to evaluate the level of their trust in the presented maps of respective metropolitan areas: based on citizen science in one region and historical data regression analysis in the other region. Our contribution to the literature lies in two areas. First, we demonstrate how citizen science can be used in urban studies to delineate boundaries of urban and metropolitan areas exhibiting strong functional connections. Second, we show that the participation of local residents in the research process increases public trust in the study results compared to non-participatory ‘traditional academic’ research.
