Job description

The Department of Physiology in the College of Graduate Studies at Midwestern University Glendale (http://www.midwestern.edu/programs_and_admission/az_osteopathic_medicine/physiology.html) invites applications for full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in physiology at the rank of Assistant Professor available in the 2022/2023 academic year.

The successful applicant will participate in a team-teaching approach to meet the needs of several healthcare education graduate programs, including Osteopathic Medicine, Podiatric Medicine, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Nurse Anesthesia, Dentistry, Optometry, Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. While experience teaching veterinary physiology for one of the positions is preferable, we will customize the teaching expectations to the experience level of the successful candidates. Candidates whose research areas complement current research strengths are encouraged to apply. Start-up funds and laboratory space are available for the applicant to establish and maintain a successful research program. Core facilities are available for imaging, histology and for molecular techniques. Individuals must have a PhD degree in Physiology or a related field with completion of a two-year postdoctoral program.  The successful candidate must demonstrate effective teaching potential.

About the Department. The Physiology Department is within the College of Graduate Studies (CGS) and consists of eight full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty who share the common goal of providing a strong foundation in physiology. The faculty is highly collegial with diverse research interests, including intestinal dysfunction, diabetes, carnitine and exercise training, neural mechanisms of vocal learning, caveolins and insulin signaling, neurophysiology and evolution of vocal control, neural control of breathing and neuro-vascular interactions targeting skeletal health. Departmental teaching is supported by administrative office staff, modern classroom and lecture hall facilities and a student testing center.  Faculty research is complemented by a staff of three research technicians who work in the adjacent Foothills Science Building and the Therapy Institute.
