Job description

The Postdoc researher will work directly with the PI on all aspects of the planed sweetpotato genomics research to help meet the quality, quantity, and timeline targets for project deliverables of a NIFA-funded project. Specifically, this may include experiment planning, lab bench works such as performing plant tissue culture, genomic DNA extraction, standard PCR and dqPCR genotyping and Next-Generation Sequencing, etc., and greenhouse and field works. Additional responsibilities include managing daily operation and proper maintenance of the Plant Genomics Lab, supervising students, and occasional clerical assistance.  The postdoc researcher must be willing and able to work on occasional flexible schedules, weekends during peak periods of field research works.

The appointment will be initially for 3 years. Continuation of the appointment depends on performance and availability of the grant funding.  Salary range is 50 to 65K plus fringe benefits commensurate with qualification and experiences.

Desired skills and experience

This position requires a doctoral degree in molecular biology, plant physiology, plant breeding, or plant genetics, with training and experiences in molecular biology, bioinformatics and plant tissue culture techniques.  Experiences in Next-Generation Sequencing and genotyping by sequencing, and in genetic mapping are highly desirable. Demonstratedproficiency in bioinformatics tools is essential. Experience with database management and scripting is a plus.
