To meet the challenges of college, students need to develop not only knowledge and academic strategies but also strategies for self-regulated learning. For the past decade, the Supporting Strategic Writers (SSW) project has developed and evaluated instructional approaches that include strategies for critical reading and writing integrated with metacognitive strategies for learning. Two years of design research (MacArthur & Philippakos, 2012) and three experimental studies in developmental courses (MacArthur et al., 2015; 2022; 2023) have found large effects on the quality of writing and positive effects on motivational factors like self-efficacy and affect. The authors explain how they have adapted the learning, reading, and writing strategies for use across the curriculum, including first-year experience courses, summer bridge programs, ESL, and upper-level courses.
The convergence of Operational Technology and Information Technology systems has brought about great advancements in industrial processes and efficiency. However, this convergence has also introduced new security challenges, as these traditionally isolated systems are now interconnected. Balancing the need for robust security measures with the requirements for operational efficiency is crucial for organizations operating in this environment. This paper explores the development of a security framework specifically tailored to address the unique challenges posed by converged OT/IT systems. The framework aims to mitigate security risks while ensuring that operational processes remain efficient and productive. Additionally, this paper discusses the policy and economic importance of such a security framework in the context of the United States, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 9. While this transformation promises immense operational benefits to the utilities, it brings along significant security concerns in terms of increasing the enterprise-class security risks. The challenge for the utilities, therefore, is to implement new approaches and tools in building a secure smart grid network that is reliable and resilient.
Diabetes mellitus is a disease known as diabetes, this disease is caused by a metabolic disorder caused by many factors such as a lack of insulin or the body's inability to utilize insulin. At first, many people did not know that they were suffering from diabetes mellitus due to unhealthy lifestyle factors such as consuming too much food containing excessive levels of sugar and salt, rarely doing regular exercise activities every week and a lack of knowledge and skills. Discussing diabetes mellitus, so this has led to many new people learning about diabetes mellitus in conditions that are already in an advanced stage or a high stage. Lack of knowledge among the public about the causes, symptoms and how to treat and treat diabetes mellitus is the main factor causing diabetes mellitus to grow rapidly. So the researchers made this research using forward and backward chaining reasoning methods accompanied by healing therapy and treatment methods. This system was created so that sufferers can understand and understand the types of diabetes mellitus along with healing therapies and how to treat them. This system provides several disease prevention solutions according to the type of disease. The system development methodology uses the waterfall method. The application software used to create this application program is Dreamweaver MX, XAMPP, Adobe Photoshop, MySQL, Opera / Mozilla Firefox. The results of the research are in the form of an application program that can help users find out the type of diabetes mellitus and provide extensive information about diabetes mellitus and find out how to treat it and cure it.
The ongoing transition within the Chinese economy assumes a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of the cultural and creative industries (CCI). Renowned for its environmentally sustainable attributes, coupled with high productivity, CCI has garnered considerable attention across diverse societal strata. This study endeavors to delineate the determinants influencing the developmental trajectory of CCI, with a focal point on City A as the primary subject of investigation, juxtaposed against Cities G, D, B, H, and X for comparative analysis, leveraging developmental data from the year 2021. Initially, the study elucidates the conceptual framework underpinning CCI and its intrinsic significance in facilitating urban metamorphosis. Subsequently, the positive impact of CCI through deep learning and information management technology is emphasized, and a cultural and creative recommendation model based on LSTM algorithm is constructed. Through performance evaluation, the recommendation accuracy for cultural and creative projects reaches 94.74 %. A robust developmental assessment model for CCI is then constructed via meticulous factor analysis of pertinent influencers. Employing factor analysis techniques, the study identifies two primary determinants exerting sway over CCI development: sustainable profitability factors and cultural influence factors. Noteworthy among the factors influencing CCI development within City A are fixed asset investment, cultural industry financing, the proliferation of university-based research institutions, and per capita cultural expenditure by residents. Of these, fixed asset investment, cultural industry financing, and the density of university research institutions prominently impinge upon sustainable profitability, with a discernible impact weight of 0.738 in the evaluative framework of CCI development, thus significantly shaping its trajectory. Moreover, consumer psychological factors, particularly market consumption patterns, are observed to exert a discernible influence on CCI evolution. This study augurs fresh insights into the realm of CCI development, infusing it with renewed vigor and vitality. Moreover, it underscores the inherent interdependence and positive correlation among the various research factors, offering novel perspectives and methodologies germane to the advancement of urban CCI.
This article addresses the critical link between socioeconomic status and health outcomes in chronic disease patients, emphasizing the need for system-level outcome measurement stratified by socioeconomic status. Despite the acknowledged influence of social determinants, there is a lack of published studies analyzing chronic disease outcomes neighborhood by neighborhood. The importance of mapping as a public health tool, and the significance of analyzing outcomes at the neighborhood level is emphasized. The U.S. Census Bureau's hierarchy of space definitions is presented, particularly focusing on census tracts as a unique opportunity for analyzing chronic disease outcomes. Two Area-Based Deprivation Indices (ABDIs) - the Area Deprivation Index (ADI) and the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) - as tools to measure socioeconomic disadvantage and vulnerability to environmental stressors, respectively are described. A brief survey of the weaknesses of ABDIs and limitations in addressing individual-level factors is addressed followed by a discussion of the challenges in translating patient address data into census block data. The evolving conversation around equity analysis and its impact on chronic disease management is presented. It highlights the willingness of public payers to tie payments to ABDIs, signaling a shift towards a more equitable healthcare system. Private insurers and health systems are urged to invest in geocoding strategies to understand and improve outcomes for the diverse neighborhoods they serve, acknowledging that the path forward involves addressing health disparities at the population level.
Adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) experience age-related diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and obesity much earlier than their typical peers. Therefore, health promotion is essential in this population.¹ This population tends to live sedentary lives; exercise needs to be a focus. Exercise positively impacts survival rates for those with ID.² Motivation and support are vital factors to successfully incorporate exercise into their lives. Prevalent barriers are a lack of access to health promotion programs, support, and transportation. Creating virtual programming with exercise and support can fill this gap. The implementation of a 6-week virtual exercise/dance program with music as a motivator Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project, enabled adults with ID to participate in physical activity resulting in improved cardiovascular and muscular fitness using Standing Long Jump (SLJ) and 6 Minute Walk Test (6MWT) as measures. No improvement was noted in Body Mass Index measurements.
The transition to a low-carbon economy requires a steady and secure supply of minerals, which are susceptible to international tensions. In particular, the coronavirus pandemic in 2019 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022 are two novel shocks affecting the clean energy market. Measuring the impact of increasing geopolitical risks due to these shocks on the clean energy sector is critical to the future of sustainable development. In this framework, this study uses wavelet coherence analysis and time-varying parameter VAR methods to examine the impact of geopolitical risks on the prices of aluminum, copper, lead, zinc, cobalt, and nickel from January 1992 to August 2022. The results show that mineral prices decreased during the COVID-19 period and increased after the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The results also indicate that global geopolitical risk has a moderating effect on the prices of copper, aluminum, cobalt, and zinc, while geopolitical risk associated with Russia increases the prices of all minerals except cobalt. These results imply that the problems in Russia destabilize the prices of mineral commodities used in the renewable energy market, while the global geopolitical risks do not pose serious problems. Therefore, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict should be resolved in order to use clean energy minerals more effectively. ARTICLE HISTORY
In today's world, cyberbullying is a problem that is becoming more and more common, especially among teenagers and young people. The prevalence of social networking sites and other digital communication tools has made it simpler for offenders to harass their victims in secret and without repercussions. Natural language processing (NLP) methods have been used in recent years to categorize instances of cyberbullying and assist identify them. The language used in online conversations is examined using these approaches to look for trends and signs of cyberbullying behavior. The purpose of this study is to investigate how well NLP approaches can be used to recognize and categorize cyberbullying behavior. To provide a thorough knowledge of the many types of cyberbullying, the study will use a variety of data sources, including social media posts, chat logs, and other online conversations. Overall, this research will further our knowledge of the intricate nature of cyberbullying and shed light on the potential applications of NLP approaches to lessen its negative impacts.
Objectives: To investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the burden of hospital-treated Aspergillus and Candida infections in England. Design: A retrospective study using Hospital Episodes Statistics data to estimate the burden of serious and invasive fungal infections (SIFIs) in all patients admitted in England during March 2018-February 2020 (pre-COVID-19) and during March 2020-October 2021 (the COVID-19 period). Setting: Hospitals in England. Population: All patients with codes corresponding to serious and invasive aspergillosis and candidiasis in any diagnosis position during their admission pre-COVID-19 and during the COVID-19 period. Outcome measures: Age, spells, patient counts, mean length of stay, admission to critical care unit (CCU), length of stay in CCU, 30-day readmissions, failed discharges (readmission within 7 days) and comorbidities. Results: During the COVID-19 period, hospitalisation spells with an invasive candidiasis code fell by 3.2% and spells with an aspergillosis code by 24.8%. Mean length of stay was higher for patients with aspergillosis with or without COVID-19 and candidiasis with or without COVID-19 during the pandemic than before the pandemic. During the pandemic, mean length of stay was higher for patients with aspergillosis with COVID-19 than those with aspergillosis alone but slightly lower for patients with candidiasis with COVID-19 than for those with candidiasis alone. Of patients with a diagnosis of COVID-19, 52.5% with aspergillosis and 60.0% with candidiasis were treated in CCU compared with 13.2% and 37.1%, respectively, without a COVID-19 diagnosis. The percentage of 30-day readmissions and failed discharges for patients with SIFI was higher for those with COVID-19 than for those without. Conclusions: The burden of aspergillosis and candidiasis has been affected by COVID-19. Aspergillosis diagnoses fell among hospitalised patients during the pandemic, while candidiasis continued to fluctuate in patterns similar to pre-COVID-19. A higher burden for patients with SIFI was observed, whether or not they also had a diagnosis of COVID-19. Our findings highlight extra considerations and burden on management of serious SIFI as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The global COVID-19 pandemic produced several changes in nearly every aspect of our lives. Ride-sharing platforms such as Uber and Lyft must adapt their strategies and aims to stay afloat. The analysis in this study is based on 216,120 tweets in the U.S. between January 1, 2019, and December 30, 2021, about Uber. It includes four separate analyses: Popularity and Usage Analytics, Sentimental Analytics, Voice Analytics, and Topic Mining Analytics. The result shows that usage and popularity of Uber on Twitter negatively affect Covid and death cases. In contrast, vaccination helps mitigate the shock of Covid. Additionally, ’ ‘Uber’s policy and business model was beneficial in improving its positive image during the pandemic; On the early breakout of Covid in the U.S. Uber had a jump on the positive sentiment, mainly because Uber provided safer service than public transportation.
