Ancient Narratives, Modern Influence: The Work of Professor Marcin Jacoby

Professor Marcin Jacoby is not only a renowned scholar in the field of Asian Studies, but also one of the key academic leaders at SWPS University. As the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities in Warsaw, he not only fosters the implementation of our strategic vision of education and development, but also carries out advanced research projects.
Given his background in Sinology and a Ph.D. in literary studies, Professor Jacoby specializes in Chinese literature and culture. His work plays an important role in building bridges between Europe and East Asia, the past and the present. For example, one of his recent publications focuses on the persuasive use of the narrative in ancient Chinese texts and shows how historical anecdotes, used parabolically, were being used in indirect persuasion in politics. In another, co-authored paper, prof. Jacoby shows how ancient Chinese strategies of persuasion can inspire today’s policy-makers in communicating their recommendations to politicians.
As the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Jacoby leads one of the university’s largest faculties and oversees several academic programs, faculty development, and interdisciplinary collaborations. His responsibilities go far beyond administration and include setting long-term goals, supporting innovation in education, and creating the best academic environment, conducive to learning, creativity and development, for students and staff. Marcin Jacoby exemplifies the way scholarly insight and leadership can go hand in hand, shaping the future of higher education and advancing cultural dialogue in today’s global landscape.
