Objective: To develop, validate, and evaluate an educational video on childhood vaccination for parents and guardians. Method: Methodological study in three phases. Pre-production included: script, storyboard, recruitment and validation by experts. During production, the video was created and validated by experts and the target audience. In post-production, the video was edited. The experts consisted of 20 health workers, professors and researchers (child health, immunization, health education and video production). The target audience consisted of 11 parents and guardians. Instruments were used for experts and the target audience and submitted to Content Validity Index analysis, with a minimum parameter of 0.80 for validity and evaluation. Results: The video, lasting 4 minutes and 25 seconds, was considered validated by experts and evaluated by parents and guardians, with an Overall Content Validity Index of 0.99 and 1.00, respectively. All validation and evaluation items obtained indexes equal to or greater than 0.95. Conclusion: The educational video developed was considered validated by experts and evaluated by the target audience, serving as a tool to encourage parents and guardians to promote child health and reduce vaccine-preventable diseases.
There are more than 200 species of Macronyssidae parasitizing reptiles, birds, and mammals worldwide. While most species are found on wild animals, show some degree of geographic, and host group specificity, Ophionyssus natricis thrives on captive snakes and lizards and as a result of the pet trade, has a cosmopolitan distribution. In this study, we are providing new host records for this species for the state of São Paulo, as well as SEM images and the first partial sequences of Brazilian specimens.
Background Hybrids are expected to show greater phenotypic variation than their parental species, yet how hybrid phenotype expression varies with genetic distances in closely-related parental species remains surprisingly understudied. Here, we investigate pelage and morphometric trait variation in anthropogenic hybrids between four species of Brazilian Callithrix marmosets, a relatively recent primate radiation. Marmoset species are distinguishable by pelage phenotype and morphological specializations for eating tree exudates. In this work, we (1) describe qualitative phenotypic pelage differences between parental species and hybrids; (2) test whether significant quantitative differences exist between parental and hybrid morphometric phenotypes; and (3) determine which hybrid morphometic traits show heterosis, dysgenesis, trangression, or intermediacy relative to the parental trait. We investigated cranial and post-cranial morphometric traits, as most hybrid morphological studies focus on the former instead of the latter. Finally, we estimate mitogenomic distances between marmoset species from previously published data. Results Marmoset hybrid facial and overall body pelage variation reflected novel combinations of coloration and patterns present in parental species. In morphometric traits, C. jacchus and C. penicillata were the most similar, while C. aurita was the most distinct, and C. geoffroyi trait measures fell between these species. Only three traits in C. jacchus x C. penicillata hybrids showed heterosis. We observed heterosis and dysgenesis in several traits of C. penicillata x C. geoffroyi hybrids. Transgressive segregation was observed in hybrids of C. aurita and the other species. These hybrids were also C. aurita -like for a number of traits, including body length. Genetic distance was closest between C. jacchus and C. penicillata and farthest between C. aurita and the other species. Conclusion We attributed significant morphometric differences between marmoset species to variable levels of morphological specialization for exudivory in these species. Our results suggest that intermediate or parental species-like hybrid traits relative to the parental trait values are more likely in crosses between species with relatively lesser genetic distance. More extreme phenotypic variation is more likely in parental species with greater genetic distance, with transgressive traits appearing in hybrids of the most genetically distant parental species. We further suggest that fewer developmental disturbances can be expected in hybrids of more recently diverged parental species, and that future studies of hybrid phenotypic variation should investigate selective pressures on Callithrix cranial and post-cranial morphological traits.
Objective To analyze academic training in a stricto sensu graduate program in nursing from students’ perspective. Method This is mixed methods, convergent parallel research, carried out with 91 students from a graduate nursing program in southern Brazil using an online questionnaire. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and qualitative data were subjected to content analysis. Results Seventy students (76.9%) recognized improvements in their professional life and 74 (81.4%) felt motivated to take the courses. Mental distress (48; 52.7%), accumulation of work ties with course activities (46; 50.5%), lack of financial support for research (41, 45.1%) were related to demotivation. Of the respondents, 71 (78%) completely agreed with the program’s adherence to the nursing area, although the lowest percentage of agreement (n=69; 31.4%) occurred in the item referring to the discussion for periodic updating of production, articulation and adherence of research laboratories to the program’s research lines. Conclusion The graduate course has contributed to professionals’ qualification process such as professors, researchers and managers, leading to the conclusion that it is essential that programs have an understanding of the contributions that these courses bring to professionals and to health system improvement.
São Paulo city has three municipal nurseries for the distribution of urban tree specimens that meet the demand for its public landscape projects and increase in tree covering. One of them (Manequinho Lopes) receives tree seedlings from the environmental compensation processes contracted with the Municipal Secretariat for Green and Environment (MSGE). This paper aimed to evaluate the scenario of tree biodiversity received between July 2013 and July 2018 by the Manequinho Lopes nursery, as a measure of environmental compensation. The results indicated that 144,727 tree seedlings were received by the nursery, with approximately 80% of the total belonging to only 30 species, half of them belonging to only 10 different groups. We found just two predominated families: Myrtaceae and Bignoniaceae, highlighting a biotic homogenization risk. Regarding ecological attributes, it was found that 33% of the species were zoochoric, 16% autochorous and 22% anemochoric. Most of them were non-endangered specimens. Camera traps became the main observational method of a myriad of species over large areas. Data sets from camera traps can be used to describe the patterns and monitor the occupancy, abundance, and richness of wildlife, essential information for conservation in times of rapid climate and land‐cover changes. Habitat loss and poaching are responsible for historical population losses of mammals in the Atlantic Forest biodiversity hotspot, especially for medium to large‐sized species. Here we present a data set from camera trap surveys of medium to large‐sized native mammals (>1 kg) across the Atlantic Forest. We compiled data from 5380 ground‐level camera trap deployments in 3046 locations, from 2004 to 2020, resulting in 43,068 records of 58 species. These data add to existing data sets of mammals in the Atlantic Forest by including dates of camera operation needed for analyses dealing with imperfect detection. We also included, when available, information on important predictors of detection, namely the camera brand and model, use of bait, and obstruction of camera viewshed that can be measured from example pictures at each camera location. Besides its application in studies on the patterns and mechanisms behind occupancy, relative abundance, richness, and detection, the data set presented here can be used to study species' daily activity patterns, activity levels, and spatiotemporal interactions between species. Moreover, data can be used combined with other data sources in the multiple and expanding uses of integrated population modeling. An R script is available to view summaries of the data set. We expect that this data set will be used to advance the knowledge of mammal assemblages and to inform evidence‐based solutions for the conservation of the Atlantic Forest. The data are not copyright restricted; please cite this paper when using the data.
Objective to describe the occurrences and factors associated with attempted suicide among women deprived of their freedom in a prison unit. Method a cross-sectional study conducted at a detention facility in Paraná - Brazil, with 30 women, with data collected in 2022 using the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale instrument and another one prepared by the authors and analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Results during their lifetime, 16 (53.3%) women presented suicidal behavior; 14 (46.7%) made actual suicide attempts; 14 (46.7%) had physical damage; and 10 (33.3%) preparatory acts. An actual suicide attempt was associated with suicidal thoughts before arrest (p<0.01) and with thoughts during arrest (p<0.02). Conclusion previous history of ideation influenced the suicide attempt. Therefore, it is important to evaluate suicidal behavior in the admission and permanence of women deprived of their freedom. This study contributes to reducing the gap in the Brazilian scientific production on this topic with this population segment. DESCRIPTORS: Nursing; Prison Units; Women; Suicide; Suicide Attempt
