Telecommunication and electronics is the direction that scientists from several departments of SPBPU are dealing with. One of such departments is the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications. Scientific research at the Institute is carried out in various fields such as applied physics, radio engineering, ICTs, electronics and nanoelectronics. This Institute is famous for its achievements in developing control systems for UAV from space stations in the Arctic regions, systems for non-batteries wireless monitoring of the engine state, and many others. Besides it, the Institute regularly hosts and organizes international schools and conferences such as, for example, EExPolytech-2021, "International Polytechnic Week", "International Youth Conference on Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technologies", etc. The scientific results of the researches from the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications are highlighted in the journal Computing, Telecommunication and Control. St. Petersburg Polytechnic University Journal «Computer Science. Telecommunication and Control Systems» is an open-access journal that publishes regular papers and overviews four times per year.

Several departments of Polytechnic University deal with Electrical and Electronics area. The research work of the university scientists is based on the advanced achievements and long-term experience of international cooperation.
The Higher School of Electronics and Microsystems Engineering conducts research to develop micro- and nanoelectronic component base, new materials for renewable energy sources, promising nanocomposite materials based on conducting polymers with various structuring additives (carbon nanotubes, silver nanoparticles).
Scientists of the laboratory "Microelectronics (Design Center for Design of Integrated Circuits)" of SPbPU have created microcircuits for high-temperature electronics, which were included in the list of the best products of the program EUROPRACTICE.

Over the 40-year history of the development of Computer Science at SPbPU, the university has become a recognized leader in the application of computer technologies in industry production processes, product modeling, information security and management of complex systems. Several units are engaged in Computer Science research – such as Institute of Computer Science and Technology, Institute of Cyber security and Information Protection, Research Laboratory of Neural Network Technologies and Artificial Intelligence, etc. Among our customers and partners are well renowned industrial companies, such as IBM, Siemens, Intel, Hewlett Packard, General Motors, Panasonic, etc. Some notable research results of our scientists are published in the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University Journal Computer Science. Telecommunication and Control Systems, an open-access journal that publishes papers on theoretical and practical problems of informatics, electronics, and telecommunications 4 times a year.

Scientists from different institutes, research centers and laboratories are engaged in the study of the direction of Mechanical and manufacturing engineering at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. Our researchers scientific results in Mechanical and manufacturing engineering are reported in the highly cited International scientific journal "Materials Physics and Mechanics" (Scopus, WoS) which is published in collaboration with Institute of Problems of Mechanical Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences in both hard copy and electronic versions. One of the largest events in Russia devoted to the mechanical engineering, the International Summer School-Conference "Actual Problems of Mechanics" (APM) has been held since 1971 by the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and is a center of attraction for prominent Russian and foreign scientists and experts in the field of mechanics.

The Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport is a successor of the metallurgical faculty formed in 1902 – among the first to be functioning in the newly founded St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute. Outstanding scientists Dmitriy Mendeleev and Dmitriy Chernov stood at the dawn of this unit. The departments of Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University are currently working on composing state-of-the-art materials and researching their physical and chemical properties: monocrystallines, polymer fibers, composites, alloys with specified properties. Current challenges and achievements are represented in publications of International scientific journal "Materials Physics and Mechanics"which is published in collaboration with Institute of Problems of Mechanical Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Rooted back in 1907 Civil Engineering Department of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) has been continuing a strong tradition of scientific school for design and construction of river and marine hydraulic engineering construction, civil industrial engineering, unique construction; for human resourcing in construction and housing and public utilities, exploitation of hydro-technical engineering facilities. Scholars of Civil Engineering Institute are # 3 in the world by contributing to the topic cluster “Buildings; Air Conditioning; Ventilation”, and ranked among the top-100 in the topic clusters “Magnetoplasma; Tokamak Devices; Plasmas”, and “Reinforced Concrete; Concretes; Steel”.
