Study anywhere in the world

Distance learning is an ideal option for individuals who are unable to study on campus for an extended period of time.
At the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), we aim to meet the needs of health practitioners, clinicians, policy-makers, laboratory scientists and scientists who want to earn a world-class qualification in aspects of public and global health, regardless of location.
Programmes
We offer master’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas, postgraduate certificates and modules in:
Clinical Trials: theoretical and practical training in the design, conduct, analysis and interpretation of randomised clinical trials.
Demography & Health: covering the theories and methods of demography and population sciences and how to apply these to health, social welfare and economic development.
Epidemiology: training in the epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases in low-, middle- and high-income countries.
Global Health Policy: focusing on the health determinants and outcomes that transcend national boundaries, and the policy responses required to protect and promote global health.
Infectious Diseases: provides a broad understanding of infectious diseases through modules in the biology, biostatistics, epidemiology and control of infectious diseases.
Public Health: provides the knowledge and skills to address diverse public health issues in low-, middle- and high-income countries
How it works
The course content, teaching and assessment is developed by academic staff at LSHTM to the same high quality as our face-to-face programmes. Online learning is fully supported by discussion forums, readings and additional resources delivered through a virtual learning environment.
You study at a time and pace that suits you, subject to certain deadlines, using the study materials provided and with support available from our academic team.
The programmes are run in collaboration with the University of London and applications must be made to the University.
Application deadline is on 31 August with all programmes starting in October each year.
Benefits
There are many benefits to studying by distance learning, including:
Flexibility: you can study at your own pace and at times that are convenient to you, over several years if needed, to fit in with your other commitments.
Application: distance learning enables you to continue building your career momentum while gaining the knowledge and skills for future opportunities. This also means you can immediately apply concepts you have learned to real-life situations, making the experience of studying more rewarding.
Pay as you go: because of the flexible nature of distance learning, you can pay for what you plan to study each year at the point of registration, rather than paying the whole fee up front. This allows you to spread the cost over the lifetime of your programme.
