This paper presents a literature review on viscous dampers. Civil constructions such as high-rise skyscrapers, towers, and long-span bridges are created with more flexibility as a result of fast economic development and modern technology increase in their susceptibility to external excitation. Therefore, these flexible structures are susceptible to be exposed to excessive levels of vibration under the action of strong wind or earthquake. The viscous damper is one of the devices used to minimize the seismic forces.
Research on effective use of Sugarcane Bagasse Ash (SCBA), Rice Husk Ash (RHA) & Metakaolin enhances the strength & durability properties of concrete. The strength & durability of concrete is reduced under acidic water curing but till it is higher as compared to the control mix concrete which cure under acidic water. The cement in the concrete replaced by Bagasse Ash, RHA& Metakaolin by the percentage 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%& 40%. The result obtained is beneficial in improving the compressive strength (CS), flexural Strength (FS), Split tensile strength (STS), water penetration and resistance to the chloride penetration of concrete.

The current scenario gives rise to a necessity of a single platform of accommodation facilities. It is very difficult to access all accommodation facilities individually. This website can act as an interface between the owners and the users. In this project, we are going to develop an online website which aims at providing accommodation facilities for people. The facilities available are hostels, mess and rooms/flats. Any person can view the details of the facilities but will not be able to give feedback like comments or ratings unless he is a registered user thus disallowing false defamation of any facility. He/She can contact the owner directly with the contact details. To avoid defamatory publicity, only the registered users can add comments.
Elevated water tank with frame staging is mostly used in India and due to its requirement after earthquake, it is considered as an important structure. Thus, it is required to control the seismic response of tank staging to minimize damages. In this work, the effectiveness of lead rubber bearing (LRB) and X-plate damper (XPD) in seismic response control of staging is investigated. Initially, two types of frame staging are considered for the same capacity of the tank and from nonlinear static analysis, best-suited staging is identified. After this, LRB and XPD are installed separately and to check the effectiveness of these devices, nonlinear time history analysis has been performed for four different earthquake records. It is observed that due to these control devices, seismic responses are significantly reduced.
Coagulation and Flocculation processes are some of the important aspects of water treatment. The properties of flocs, such as size, structure, and strength have a significant effect on the solid and liquid separation process also it affects the basic operations of the industrial unit process. Floc structure is an important factor that influencing the coagulation effect and to identify the post-treatment load. The physical characteristics of the floc are therefore fundamental in determining their removal efficiency. Study of floc generated and its growth characteristics in the flocculation process plays an important role as it decides the removal policies, effect on subsequent processes, and ultimately the quality of water. The present investigation is to study the floc growth for two different aluminium and iron-based coagulants, Aluminium Sulphate and Ferric Chloride, respectively, using the microscopy method. This paper deals with the examination of two different kinds of flocs for strength, breakage, recovery, and floc growth rate.
Roller bending is a sequential process where bending operation is done in single or multiple passes. Producing cylinders in single pass is most economical and efficient method, but accuracy in final dimensions depends upon experience and expertise of operator. In small scale industries, bending operation has been performed in a very non-symmetrical manner and hence keeping accuracy in final dimensions is utmost concern. For getting accuracy in final desired shape of the component, utilization of multiple pass bending is generally recommended in many industries. Predicting accurate number of passes required to complete cylindrical bending needs to be evaluated. Considering this objective, the author proposed a methodology, in this paper, for accurate prediction of number of passes for forming cylindrical bending on three roller bending machine. An emerging combination of dimensional analysis and modern design of experimentation techniques is presented. The model consists of geometrical, operational, and material parameters. Effect of each parameter on dependent variable is also discussed. Obtained model results are compared with experimental results to validate the model. Average RMSE is found to be less than 10 %, showing correctness of applied methodology.
Audio playback devices like IPODs and MP3 players use Sigma Delta Digital to Analog Converters (DACs) where the size and power consumption is of prime importance. Digital modulator is the most important part of Sigma Delta DACs. This paper presents a new approach for the implementation of a sample digital MASH 1-1 and MOD 2 modulator using Gate Diffusion Input (GDI) technique. The same modulators are also implemented in standard CMOS technology and are compared for the tone frequencies of the audio frequency range. The proposed modulators using GDI method provide a significant improvement in the area, power, and power delay product as compared to CMOS. The gate level simulation using WinSpice with 0.18µm technology confirms the usefulness of the presented structures.
Image segmentation is one of the most studied problems in image analysis, computer vision, pattern recognition etc. Edge detection is a discontinuity based approach used for image segmentation. An edge detection using fuzzy set is proposed here, where an image is considered as a fuzzy set and pixels are taken as elements of fuzzy set. The proposed approach converts the color image to a partially segmented image; finally an edge detector is convolved over the partially segmented image to obtain an edged image. The approach is implemented using MATLAB 7.11. (R2010b). In this paper, an attempt is made to evaluate edge detection using ground truth for quantitative and qualitative comparison. 30 BSD (Berkeley Segmentation Database) images and respective ground truths are used for experimentation. Performance parameters used are PSNR (dB) and Performance ratio (PR) of true to false edges. Experimental results shows that the proposed approach gives higher PSNR and PR values when compared with Canny's edge detection algorithm under almost all scenarios. The proposed approach reduces false edge detection and identification of double edges are minimum.
Concrete structural components exist in buildings and bridges in different forms. Understanding the response of these components during loading is crucial to the development of an overall efficient and safe structure.Different methods have been utilized to study the response of structural components. Experimental based testing has been widely used as a means to analyse individual elements and the effects of concrete strength under loading. While this is a method that produces real life response, it is extremely time consuming, and the use of materials can be quite costly. The use of finite element analysis to study these components has also been used. Unfortunately, early attempts to accomplish this were also very time consuming and infeasible using existing software and hardware. In recent years, however, the use of finite element analysis has increased due to progressing knowledge and capabilities of computer software and hardware. It has now become the choice method to analyze concrete structural components. The use of computer software to model these elements is much faster, and extremely cost-effective. To fully understand the capabilities of finite element computer software, one must look back to experimental data and simple analysis. Data obtained from a finite element analysis package is not useful unless the necessary steps are taken to understand what is happening within the model that is created using the software. Also, executing the necessary checks along the way, is key to make sure that what is being output by the computer software is valid. By understanding the use of finite element packages, more efficient and better analyses can be made to fully understand the response of individual structural components and their contribution to a structure as a whole. This paper is a study of prestressed concrete beams using finite element analysis to understand the response of prestressed concrete beams due to transverse loading.
An Intelligent Biometrics systems aims at localizing and detecting human faces from supplied images so that further recognition of persons and their facial expression recognition will be easy. Based on facial expression; it is easy to detect intension of person if they are involved in some terror activities or not. This paper presents an automatic, fast and efficient detection of face from an image so that the detected face can be used for facial expression recognition. Images obtained from Sony make digital camera (resolution 7.1 Mega pixel)/Emotion database are considered for our work. Method used includes combination of skin detection algorithms such as modified RGB, YCbCr and HSV and gives better results. Experimental result shows that the algorithm is good to detect and localize human face in an image with better accuracy.
Automatic electrocardiogram (ECG) beat classification is essential for timely diagnosis of dangerous heart conditions. So AI based arrhythmia recognition is effective for the management of cardiac disorders. Various techniques have been studied to classify arrhythmias. A simple wavelet transform based technique is proposed to classify normal sinus rhythm (NSR) and various cardiac arrhythmias including atrial premature contraction (APC), premature ventricular contraction (PVC), super ventricular tachycardia (SVT), ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF). Wavelet transform may be performed on ECG data with normal sinus rhythm as well as various arrhythmias. Accuracy of most of existing methods for detecting NSR, APC, PVC, SVT, VT and VF is between 90% to 98%. Expanding the overall data set greatly reduces overall accuracy due to significant variation in ECG morphology among different patients. As a result, morphological information must be coupled with timing information, which is more constant among patients, in order to achieve high classification accuracy for larger data sets. An AI based detection and classification techniques coupled with wavelet based processing is suggested which will extend accuracy even to large data sets.
This paper describes sinusoidal pulse width modulation of the voltage impressed to the stator of an induction motor for direct control of torque and stator flux. Instantaneous voltage vectors applied by an inverter have redundancy characteristics which provide some flexibility for selecting the inverter switching modes. By using this switching freedom, control is achieved according to the following properties; high speed torque control, regulation of the primary flux, minimization of the inverter switching frequency. This utilizes a constant hysteresis band for both developed torque and stator flux and indirectly maintains the switched stator voltage waveforms averaged over a switching period to sinusoidal as in SPWM technique. It improves the dynamic performance of the machine compared to the conventional speed control of induction motor drives. A simulation programme has been developed to verify the results. The inverter duty cycle can then be calculated using the space vector PWM technique. The proposed method is very promising for rapid torque control which is quite different from FOC (field orientation control)
