Introduction Weight-related stigma (WS) has been associated with adverse psychosocial and physical health effects. Despite the relationship between WS and allostatic load, there are no integrative reviews of this association. This scoping review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the relationship between allostatic load biomarkers associated with WS by identifying gaps in this topic and proposing recommendations for future research. Methods and analysis This protocol was guided by the methodological framework of Arksey and O'Malley and the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The research questions were based on the population–concept–context framework. Studies in adults diagnosed as overweight or obese, exposed to WS and assessing the association between WS and biomarkers of allostatic load will be included. A search will be conducted in Medline (Ovid), PsycINFO (Ovid), Scopus (Elsevier), Cochrane Library (Wiley) and Google Scholar. The search strategy will be conducted in three stages, based on the JBI recommendation with the MESH terms “Social Stigma,” “Weight Prejudice,” “Biomarkers,” “Allostasis,” “Adults” and related terms. Data extraction will be done with a template adapted from JBI. The search strategy and selection process results will be presented in a flow chart and summarised in the text. The main results will be presented in a descriptive synthesis. Ethics and dissemination Ethics review and approval are not required. The results will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications, conferences, congresses or symposia.
The issue of global warming and greenhouse gasses is being addressed in some ways with the production of hybrid vehicles, including the idea of the Colombian Wind Powered Electrical Vehicle (EV), Eolo. This paper will give a brief review over how the engineers behind this pioneering project created the hybrid Electric-Aeolian car. The primary focus was on verifying experimental results with simulations and gaining an in-depth understanding of its performance characteristics. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software of ANSYS, Fluent was used to model the vehicle traveling along the road at various wind machine configurations. The data gathered from the simulations along with empirical data collected by Eolo Company about their turbine would be used to calculate the aerodynamic coefficient, among other relevant engineering parameters. These values will be compared against the experimental values and evaluated as to any discrepancies and validation of the experimental results.
Fissures in concrete structures result from structural deterioration and inadequate building processes, among other factors. Traditional in situ repair is often expensive and complex. For this reason, self-healing techniques have been developed, such as the use of bacteria that precipitate calcium carbonate and seal fissures. However, adding bacteria directly to the concrete matrix reduces bacterial survival. We present a review of different methods of bacterial encapsulation and their effects on fissure repair and concrete resistance. We argue that encapsulation of Bacillus subtilis in clay is the most promising method for this type of concrete, increasing concrete strength by 12% and repairing fissures of up to 0.52 mm.
Objective. To evaluate the efficiency of effective microorganisms (EM®), in environmental management and on production and economic parameters of broiler chickens. Materials and methods. A study of type assignment randomized controlled trial to evaluate two treatments in two batches of chickens with six replicates for each sex in each treatment, for a total of 24 experimental units observed for 35 days. We used EM® containing lactic acid bacteria and yeasts (Lactobacillus cassei 10³CFU/ml, Sacharomyces cerevisiae 10³CFU/ml, Rodhopseudomonas palustris (10³CFU/ml), photosynthetic, fungi and actinomycetes fermenters, (a mixture of beneficial bacteria) at concentrations greater than 100,000 CFU/ml of solution. We evaluated production parameters including weight gain, feed conversion, cumulative mortality, economic performance and utility of EM® in reducing the burden of total coliforms present in the bedding of chickens. Results. After five weeks of study the EM® significantly improved production parameters (weight gain, conversion rate, mortality) in male birds. Female birds did not significantly respond to treatment with respect to weight gain or feed conversion rate but their mortality rate was significantly lower. The los EM® reduced the burden of total coliforms present in the environment of broiler chickens. The cost-benefit ratio of the EM® treatment generated a lower production cost and greater economic value. Conclusions. For the first time in Colombia, we demonstrated the utility of EM® in weight gain, improved feed conversion rate, reduction of mortality, and improvements in the environmental condition of male birds under technical handling. The economic analysis of EM® use showed lower production costs and an improvement of profits of 8.3%.
