The chapter presents an in-depth discussion over the occupational activities in a cold environment, which can be performed both outdoors and indoors. It explores the differences between working in natural and artificial cold environment. The thermophysiological comfort, the reactions of the thermoregulatory system during cold exposure, and cold-related injuries are presented and discussed in detail. Clothing as the only insulating barrier between the body and the cold environment is discussed, and hi-tech solutions for development of cold protective clothing are presented. The particular application of standards for the indoor environment is presented, and their input for the proper management of the occupational activities in the cold is analyzed.
Recently, consumers have been demanding lightweightness, favorable hand, stretch, dynamic breathability, and transfer abilities, besides insulation and heating functions being adaptable to the body or environmental conditions. In this chapter, starting with a summary of physiological effects of the cold, layers of extreme cold protective clothing (ECPC) are introduced in cases of both material and structure, focusing more on functional and smart materials/structures, enabling survival and comfort under dynamic conditions. Moreover, quality parameters of the ECPC and sustainability issues that should be considered for ECPC are also discussed.
Research in the field of management of the occupational safety and health system indicates that legislation, implementation of established rules, measures and standards on working conditions, their integration into the existing management system, as well as their constant harmonization with socio-economic and technical-technological changes occupy a significant place in it. In this regard, the research is aimed at analyzing the importance of the impact of the legal framework and the application of standards as influential factors in the management of the health and safety system at work, based on the views of employees. In accordance with the established goal, the research presented in the paper was carried out using the survey method, on a sample of 202 employees in textile industry in Southeastern Serbia. The software program SPSS 21.0 was used for statistical data analysis. The obtained results indicate that there is a connection between the importance of the influence of the legal framework and the application of standards as influential factors in the management of the health and safety system at work, and thus the safety of employees. The results indicate that the implementation of safety laws, standards and procedures is the most effective way to improve employee safety. The methods used in the research can be applied to more effectively manage the quality of the work environment and work processes.
The business dynamics of modern organizations require a proactive approach to protecting the health and safety of employees at work, which will identify potential risks, eliminate them, or reduce the likelihood of their occurrence to an acceptable level by preventive action. In this regard, the research in this paper focuses on the analysis of the working environment and working conditions, from the aspect of risk assessment, in various industrial sectors in the territory of the Jablanica Administrative District. Twenty work places in different manufacturing processes were observed and analyzed, those work places where the level of occupational risk is increased and where employed women are exposed to a number of negative influence of risk factors that occur in the work process. Based on the results, it was concluded that the most common negative impact on the health and safety of employees has noise and chemical hazards. It has been found that there is a high level of risk due to the exposure of employees to chemical hazards in textile manufacturing. The obtained results indicate that the methods used in this research can be successfully used in order to identify risk factors in the work process, and thus to manage the quality of the work environment.
Care for the protection of employees' health and safety at work is not only a legal and moral obligation, but also an activity that significantly influences individual and organizational success. The risk assessment of the workplace is a precondition for successful implementation of health and safety measures in both workplace and environment. The aim of this work is to rank workplaces from the aspect of risk assessment in the production processes in which women are employed, using the method of multi-criteria decision making. The ranking results point to the workplace in the rough sewing garment as a workplace with the highest risk per employee. Also, the workplace with the lowest risk to health and safety at work is in a production process of the automobile industry. Presented results are significant for improving working conditions, preserving the health of female workers, increasing their satisfaction and better achieving of organizational goals.
During the recent years, obesity is increased in societies due to the reasons such as increasing stressful life, working long hours at desks and unhealthy nutrition. Therefore, number of plus-size clothing consumers is rapidly increased due to the increasing obesity. The enterprises, which want to attract plus-size consumers' attention, increase and enrich their plus-size clothing collections. Besides, the enterprises also take advantage of e-commerce, which has an increasing popularity, by selling their plus-size clothing collections via their own websites and/or e-commerce websites. This study aims to analyze the buying behavior of plus-size clothing consumers in e-commerce. In accordance with the aim of the research, a survey is conducted to plus-size consumers who buy clothing products via internet. Obtained research results are analyzed and suggestions are made.
In this paper there are presented the first results to develop some variants of agrotextile nets for various destinations in agriculture/horticulture fields. For this purpose, polyester and polyamide yarns were used to produce knitted nets on warp knitting machines. Warp knitting technology offers a wide range of possibilities for producing nets, which no other technology can match. Alongside weaving and weft knitting, warp knitting is widely used to produce textile substrates for a variety of applications. The obtained variants were tested in the accredited laboratories of the INCDTP. The characteristics of the knitted nets need to be correlated to their destination as well as the functional and design parameters.
