... Comighud and Arevalo (2021) observe that motivation has long been considered as primarily affecting job performance and productivity. Skilled and competent employees are assets that are needed most in a school (Lopez & Irene, 2017). An integrative leadership framework from an educational perspective is vital in understanding the efforts that are put in by school leaders to support overall school performance. Integrated leadership is also critical in the management and the development of partnerships aimed at increasing the quality of school performance. An integrative kind of leadership motivates members of the school community to maximize their overall performance. Integrative leadership combines the qualities of servant leadership, authentic leadership, and value-based leadership while simultaneously addressing their weaknesses. This paper sought to ascertain the mediating effect of employee motivation on the relationship between integrative leadership and the performance of public boarding secondary schools in selected Counties under the FCDC Kenya. This paper critiqued empirical studies linking the relationship between integrative leadership and performance and the mediating role of employee motivation. This study adopted a pragmatism research philosophy. This study also triangulated data using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The target population included all public boarding secondary schools from four FCDC Counties namely Lamu, Isiolo, Samburu, and Wajir. The study also targeted student leaders, teachers, principals, stakeholders (Board of Management representatives, County, and Teachers Service Commissions (TSC) Directors). The sample included 300 student leaders from 16 public boarding secondary schools in four FCDC Counties. A sample of 96 teachers, 16 principals, 16 Board of Management (BOM) stakeholders, 4 county directors of education and 4 TSC county directors; and 4 representatives of development partners also formed part of the sampling units. Therefore, the total sample size was four hundred and forty (N=440). Questionnaires were used to gather information from the teachers and students while interview guides were used to gather information from the school principals, BOM representatives, and County Directors of education. Interview guides were open-ended and detailed. Data was analysed using both quantitative and qualitative data analysis approaches based on the research objectives. Descriptive statistics was used to summarize quantitative data and the results were presented in frequencies and percentages, while inferential statistics were used to test the study hypothesis. Qualitative data on the other hand was summarized and reported in themes. The study revealed that integrative leadership has a significant relationship with the performance of public boarding secondary schools in selected Counties under FCDC Kenya. Further, the study findings indicated a partial mediating effect on the mediating role of employee motivation on the relationship between integrative leadership and school performance.
... and is described as practiced. This means that there is a need for the teachers to reflect on taking the students to the professional meeting by letting them join learning communities because, according to MacCann et al. [48], student learning communities create connections for isolated students, meet other students, foster camaraderie, and begin to bring community to other community. Table 10 shows the result on respondents' teaching practices in terms of active learning practice with the overall mean of 3.22 (SD=0.49) ...
... Dutta (2018) mentioned that indigenous communities are geographically isolated and illiterate. Likewise, the indigenous student may also be influenced by the affordable tuition fees and financial assistance offered by the university. ...
This paper investigated the level of beliefs, strategies in learning the Filipino language, and academic performance of indigenous students. The findings in the study served as basis for an enhancement program. The 74 participants were purposively chosen based on two criteria: they were members of the PAGLAUM, an indigenous peoples' organization of the University of Mindanao; and they were enrolled in Filipino subject. The descriptive-correlation method was used to ascertain the level of beliefs, strategies in learning language, and academic performance of indigenous students in Filipino. Likewise, the mixed method was utilized to substantiate the profile, level, correlation, and perception in learning Filipino language. Results showed that majority of the respondents were female, freshmen taking Bachelor of Science in Education, and belonged to the Manobo tribe. The levels of beliefs in acquiring the Filipino and direct and indirect strategies in learning the language were high; however, academic performance was average. Interestingly, the results showed linkage between sex and beliefs in language learning and strategies in learning language and academic performance; course and tribe; beliefs in learning language, strategies in learning and academic performance. Findings imply that sex affects the indigenous students' beliefs and strategies in acquiring Filipino language, and academic performance.
... In the Philippines, researches on teaching career mainly focused on preservice teachers' teaching perspectives and motivations (Abulon, 2012;Lopez, & Irene, 2017), high school students' motivation to pursue teaching career (Mangaoil, Rungduin, Abulencia, & Reyes, 2017), preservice teachers' attitude towards teaching and work values (Torres, Ballado, & Catarman, 2014), and wastage in teacher preparation investments . Choosing a career path is difficult for students, especially in their transition from senior high school to college. Students struggle to select the most viable program that suits their interests, skills, and passion. Hence, most students end up shifting among courses and, at worst, dropping out of their program. This qualitative study explores the reasons prospective teachers specialize in General Science in a teacher education program. The data were gathered through interviews and were treated through thematic analysis. Eight themes emerged including (1) alignment to chosen senior high school strand; (2) personal choice and interest; (3) passion for science; (4) personal knowledge and skills; (5) inspiration by teachers; (6) encouragement from family; (7) challenge to oneself; and (8) non-availability of a preferred course. The study has established important implications for admission policies in terms of the selection process for students enrolling in the General Science program. Higher education institutions (HEIs) should support the continuous improvement of the science education curriculum, campus and physical facilities, and student services, which are at the heart of education in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world.
The study aimed to assess the motivation and proficiency of English language learning among indigenous college students at Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences and Technology in the Municipality of Kapalong, Davao del Norte. It employed a mixed-method approach using a convergent parallel design. The quantitative phase involved 202 students selected through complete enumeration, while the qualitative phase included 17 participants. Standardized questionnaires were used for the quantitative phase, and researcher-made questionnaires were utilized for the qualitative phase. The findings revealed a high level of motivation for language learning and proficiency in English among the respondents. Furthermore, the study found that language learning motivation significantly influences the English proficiency of indigenous college students. The qualitative analysis identified six themes related to the respondents' experiences in learning English, including enhancing communicative competence, various strategies, challenges encountered, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and barriers to learning English. Additionally, five themes emerged from participants' insights on the impact of English language learning motivation on their English proficiency, including external factors, benefits of motivation, aspirations, obstacles to growth and development, and facilitation of growth and development. Integrating quantitative and qualitative data resulted in a convergence of variables and phenomena describing students' English language learning experiences.
This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of teaching effectiveness on the relationship between passion and commitment among 300 teachers in the Division of Davao del Sur. This study employed a non-experimental design utilizing the descriptive correlation technique. The statistical tools used were mean Pearson r and path analysis using SPSS AMOS. Research instruments on passion, commitment, and teaching effectiveness were validated and used as data sources. Using Pearson r, the results revealed a significant relationship between passion and commitment, passion and Teaching effectiveness, and teaching effectiveness and commitment. Utilizing path analysis, the study’s results showed no mediation of teaching effectiveness on the relationship between passion and commitment. Consequently, the findings of this study contended that teaching effectiveness as mediating variable carries no influence on passion and commitment.
