... Bax- ter experimented with techniques of non-ver- bal pedagogy that radicalized McLuhan's cri- tique of print-based classroom procedure. In- corporating found objects gleaned from his ur- ban explorations, Baxter's lectures at UBC and later at Simon Fraser University (SFU) mimed a choreography of generic actions (such as "swimming on dry land, " Fig. 3) to a rigorous- ly abstract soundtrack of John Cage and Edgar Varèse (see Baigell and Smith 370).
