In this paper we present models and languages to specify 3D interfaces for accessing knowledge bases. Our approach is inspired by the notions of spatial hypertext and virtual document. In this approach, a specification has an abstract and a concrete level. The abstract specification language describes the contents of nodes, obtained by selecting kn...

The paper presents a CORBA implementation to integrate VRML worlds running over the Avalon. It is an implementation based on the Scene Authoring Interface (SAI) specification of VRML standard. Through services such as browser services, node services and field services, a remote user can access and interact with VRML worlds. The Avalon is an open VR...

... Although it is very rare to find RUIP systems that deal with 3D interfaces, there is some interesting work done in the area of RUIP for the purpose of Knowledge Bases [1]. Most of the studied projects (see table 2) focus only 2D interfaces since their concerns are placed on a relatively general scope. ...

Motivated by the lack of survey literature in the area, this paper overviews ex- isting Rapid User Interface Prototyping (RUIP) infrastructures in the specic domain of control systems. Our main goal is to reach a better understanding of the existing rapid user interface prototyping infrastructures, which are capable of deploying an adaptable and exible human-machine interaction between a control system and its human operators. We will approach in this paper state of the art architectures, methodologies and frameworks which focus on rapid prototyping of GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces) to control systems, or similar approaches. We focus our attentions on model-based GUI prototyping frame- works which can give good formal methods to support on verifying, validating and eventually simulating the resulting GUIs.
