The distribution of goods in urban areas is a major challenge for managers in the public and private sectors, due to population growth with large population concentration in large urban centers and, in many cases, lack of planning in urban cargo transport system. In this context, the objective of this study is to present the results of a systematic...

Decision making in city logistics (CL) is complex due to the numerous concepts and alternatives, as well as the intricate relationships between measures and effects. This study introduces a novel approach to evaluating urban freight transport (UFT) by combining multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) and social cost–benefit analysis (SCBA). This combination aims to improve decision making for sustainable CL concepts, particularly in reducing externalities in last-mile delivery. The model assesses various CL initiatives and urban consolidation center (UCC) concepts for their impact on UFT externalities. It uses the MCDM for ex ante scenarios assessment and prioritization. Input data were collected through a survey of experts from various sectors, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was applied in the case study of Novi Sad, Serbia. The prioritization highlighted the significance of implementing restrictive regulatory measures, alternative transport modes, and operational optimization within UCC concepts. By estimating capital, operational, and external costs, SCBA was applied to the prioritized UCC concepts, which were then further evaluated using the SCBA outputs. Sensitivity analysis was employed to assess the robustness of the proposed model. This paper offers valuable insights into the potential use of existing tools within a hybrid model to enhance decision making in CL.
... The European Logistics Platforms Association (Europlatforms EIGG1) defines LCs as areas that contain all logistical operations and include intermodal transport options regulated by legal organizations to maintain European norms and quality for sustainability. In a different study, the effects of constructing urban consolidation centers (UCC) are investigated (Ormond and Telhada, 2017). According to the results of the study, it is seen that UCCs make the delivery and collection of goods in the cities way more efficient and effective in means of reducing congestions and improving air quality. ...

Urban freight transportation requires wise management considerations since it is one of the most challenging issues cities face to attain sustainability. To help with the challenging decision process, an integrated two-stage decision analysis approach is proposed. In the first stage, the Defining Interrelationships Between Ranked criteria (DIBR) method is used to consolidate the experts' opinions to compute the weights of the predetermined decision criteria. In the second stage, a novel approach that integrates Combined Compromise Solution (CoCoSo) with the context of type-2 neutrosophic numbers is used to identify the most optimal management decision alternative. A case study is developed to show the viability and practicability of the proposed methodology. The results indicated that "building a logistics center (for fast and cheap delivery)" is the highest-ranked decision alternative, followed by "optimized and integrated operation of urban logistics," and "zero-emission zone implementation," respectively. The proposed methodology can be used as a decision analysis framework for urban city authorities while selecting the most optimal policies and related solution alternatives towards achieving and sustaining low-emission urban freight transportation.
... In a paper from 2017, the application of consolidation centers and cargo bikes in Sao Paulo was examined. In this city, TNT is currently operating cargo trikes for city logistics, while on most of the routes, there are problems with the use of lorries because of congestion, so the advantage of cargo bikes could be taken here, too [37]. ...

Featured Application In our paper, we developed a new, geometrical structure-based approach and its graph theory-based geometric model with graph theory-based notation, which can be used in the future for city logistics system planning with cargo bikes. Abstract Nowadays, cargo bikes are seeing an ever-greater role in city logistics with an increasing number of deliveries, and it is essential to examine their future role in green and smart cities. In our work, we examine the application of cargo bikes in the city logistics system of the urban concentrated sets of delivery locations, focusing first on shopping malls, with the investigation of the geometrical structure of the logistics network. In the examined concept, the use of cargo bikes will be combined with electric trucks to make possible green deliveries of urban concentrated sets of delivery locations. In this paper, we present the experiences of the existing systems and the related research, the simulation model of the examined new concept with cargo bikes and its results, the graph theory-based geometric model of the examined city logistics system with graph theory-based notation, and the application of the new approach for Budapest. The main output of this research is the geometrical model of the urban concentrated sets of delivery locations and its application. Based on this geometrical model, it will be possible to decide about the suitability of the examined cargo bike-based city logistics concepts for given cities.

Özellikle son on yılda şehir lojistiğine yönelik araştırmaların sayısı önemli ölçüde artmıştır.
