... Another interesting growth classification (Tajnikar, Ponikvar, & Bonča, 2016) Aggressively seeking growth is seen most often in the startups than in the stable SMEs and that requires a specialized classification of their approaches to growth. An empirical taxonomy of start-up firm trajectories of Belgian startup firms by (Biga-Diambeidou, François, Gailly, Verleysen, & Wertz, 2008) defines 4 different types of firms with transitions that could be called different types of growth. It starts with 4 status names for firms: "Questions" having low performance with low resources, "Seeds" having low performance with high resources, "Boutiques" having high performance despite low resources and the "Stars" displaying high performance with high resources. ...

This research was done to discover potential for an enterprise that helps drive growth in the SMEs. It summarizes enterprise growth models from various studies, and the process of growth as seen in the SMEs.
... Also, the phenomenon of growth of new businesses has been identified as complex by recent empirical studies (Delmar et al., 2003;Biga and Gailly, 2011). However, it is not a random process or inexplicable (Garnsey et al., 2006;Biga, 2008). In particular, recent studies indicate that successful management of internal resources, especially in the early stages of developing a young firm, can greatly improve its business performance and probability of survival (Aspelund et al., 2005;Shepherd et al., 2000). ...
... Other researchers (Biga, 2008;Delmar et al., 2003;Hanks et al., 1993;McMahon, 2001;Mangematin et al., 2003;Garnsey et al., 2006) have tried to empirically calculate the trajectories of growth type and/or groups of high growth firms. However, these findings do not provide cumulative results, because these studies are rarely comparable and differ, as already mentioned: 1 in terms of samples and measurements 2 methodology used (type of clustering technique and the choice of measurement of distance between trajectories). ...
... To contribute to the development of knowledge about the reality of young service firms and to better understand their growth process, we used a methodological approach, inspired by Biga (2008), to explore the heterogeneity of growth trajectories developed by 16 young service sector MSEs. This approach has enabled us to identify types of trajectories from which a typology of models of stable and unstable development seems to emerge. ...

This paper explores, over a period of ten years since their creation, the initial growth process of a sample of 16 young French innovative firms active in two service industries: ICT and real estate. Mainly rooted in an original dynamic analysis using a set of multivariate indicators of growth, the study highlights the growth trajectories of young companies. As a result, the analysis found out heterogeneous growth trajectories among the firms of the sample, from these we draw an emerging typology of models of development of micro size enterprises (MSEs). The sector of activity does not seem to affect the development patterns identified.

This study aims to provide a conceptual model measuring the impact of quality practices on the growth factors of young industrial enterprises located in northwestern Morocco and to see how quality can stimulate and improve growth factors to this kind of enterprises. Using the PLS-path modelling approach and 220 questionnaires, we concluded that in general the quality practices concerning "leadership" and "process management" have a positive impact on the growth factors of this type of enterprises: "strong to medium" importance of effects. In contrast, the quality practices concerning "human resources", "strategy and planning" and "partnerships and resources" weakly influenced the factors of growth of this type of enterprises. On the basis of our study, the young industrial enterprises should seek to constantly improve the quality practices that have a weak impact on growth factors in order to enhance their growth factors and therefore to strengthen their competitiveness and ensure their sustainability. We work with financial factors in conjunction with the macro-financial variables of interest to study the behavior of these factors in terms of their relationship, importance, and significance with firm growth in China during and around the 1997 Asian financial crisis and the 2008 global financial crisis. Our results show that the financial factors portray identical behavior during the 1997 Asian financial crisis as well as during the 2008 global financial crisis. Toward the end of the each of these financial crises, firm size became more important and positively related to firm growth revealing that investors became more cautious about the safety of their investments rather than high returns. The results also show that variation in growth rates in economic activity is stronger than that of sales growth rates that are determined by the financial factors and the other macro-financial variables of interest. Thus, our results show that China is not expected to encounter a financial crisis of the form of the recent financial crises.

Our research focus on young firms, within the field of entrepreneurship, due to their relevance and potential for growth and their power to be a source of change and economic dynamism. We identify organizational culture and assess the relationship between organizational culture, particularly regarding innovative culture, management control systems (MCS) use and their effects on performance. With this purpose, we carry out an empirical analysis on a sample of 89 young SMEs. Results show that young firms’ predominant culture is clan, whereas adhocratic culture is less relevant. Additionally, we found some evidence that the innovative culture (mix of clan and adhocratic culture) and the use of MCS have positive effect on firm performance.
