The rare pseudoam ericus yellow form of Black Swallowtail nectaring on firecrackerbush. This individual was the cause of much confusion and discussion on iNaturalist. It is not the "Desert" subspecies of Black Swallowtail; more northerly commenters were trying to make it into an Old W orld Swallowtail. W indow View Trail, Chisos Basin.

In the last 21 years, Bolivia has recorded a series of thousands of wildfires that impacted an area of 24 million hectares, mainly in the departments of Beni and Santa Cruz. In this sense, identifying trends in the increase of natural vegetation after wildfires is a fundamental step in implementing strategies and public policies to ensure ecosystem...

Landscape patterns and composition were identified as key drivers of fire risk and fire regimes. However, few studies have focused on effective policymaking aimed at encouraging landowners to diversify the landscape and make it more fire-resilient. We propose a new framework to support the design of wildfire mitigation policies aimed at promoting l...

Decision makers need better methods for identifying critical ecosystem vulnerabilities to changing climate and fire regimes. Climate-wildfire-vegetation interactions are complex and hinder classification and projection necessary for development of management strategies. One such vulnerability assessment (VA) is FireCLIME VA, which allows users to c...

Spatial and temporal dynamics of rangeland fuels is a primary factor driving large wildfires. Yet detailed information capturing variation in fine fuels has largely been missing from rangeland fire planning and fuels management. New fuels-based maps of Great Basin rangeland fire probability help bridge this gap by coupling dynamic vegetation cover...

Anthropogenic climate change is now considered to be one of the main factors causing an increase in both the frequency and severity of wildfires. These fires are prone to release substantial quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere and to endanger natural ecosystems and biodiversity. Depending on the ecosystem and climate regime, fires have distinct t...
