... Typically, students find networking topics technical and dull since they consist of a complicated and changing subject (Zhang, Liang and Ma, 2012). Students who research networking must be able to clarify the basics of how computer networks operate, according to Airi and Anderson (2017). Students and lecturers continue to devote several hours engaged with functional applications planning, configuring and integrating a virtual network in order to produce these learning effects. ...
Multi-user capabilities in Cisco Packet Tracer provide an incentive for immersive realistic learning to increase the efficiency of teaching and learning in the networking class. It is difficult to evaluate the configuration skills of the students in the classroom, particularly during laboratory class, while teaching networking course, the most problems for lecturers. The multi-user functionality that uses the one-to-many remote relay server concept allows lecturers to remotely control and test many students at one time. The key purpose of this paper is to incorporate creativity in teaching by using realistic multi-user practises in the networking class. In this study, the multiuser operation was developed and used via an existing LAN link in the classroom. The focus of the operation is the simple configuration of network equipment such as routers and switches. This practise was used during the laboratory session, encouraging lecturers to establish relationships based on a large audience. The professor is able to evaluate the success of the students during the execution of the activity and to ensure that each student engages in the activity. As a result of introducing this approach, the curiosity of students in technical subjects can be improved and student success can be conveniently tracked on the part of the lecturer. Lecturers are able to monitor the configuration capabilities of students closely to ensure that each student engages in the laboratory class. The lecturer will train students not only to develop their configuration and troubleshooting abilities by using this teaching form, but also to accelerate the pace at which students need to fix network problems.
... Likewise, Cisco's packet tracer is considered as the most widely used simulator in learning firewall and network security topics [12]. It has been used in teaching computer security at undergraduate level by Airi and Anderson [13]. Also, a study by Dengping et al. [14] shows that the simulator is appropriate simulator for computer network management course. ...
Firewall administration is an important topic in network security courses. However, most teaching aids of the topic commonly deal with static firewall analyses that does not adequately covers current dynamic and variety of cyber security attacks. This study presents our approach to introduce an intelligent firewall simulator to fill the gap. The simulator is based on iNetwork software and it has three different dynamic security attacks scenarios or modules. Each module is equipped with handbook or manual to aid student performs the simulation procedures. Evaluation of intelligent firewall simulator usage is performed by expert and student. Expert evaluation is focused on the content validity of the modules and its accompanying handbook, whilst student evaluation measures the perception of students after using the simulator. Finally, both evaluations show positive results that the content and manual of intelligent firewall modules are valid and also effective to improve student skills and understanding.

Objective: Academic institutions worldwide are continually trying to improve their curricula to address the needs of industry and government. Many technology curricula emerged to satisfy well recognized IT standards and critical components. Colleges and universities are now inclined to include IT certification in their curricula. Moreover, this study aims to develop a model that will predict outcomes based performance of the IT students in their Cisco Certification Program. Method: The data sets used in this field are the forms of the 3rd year BSIT students enrolled in the Cisco Routing and Switching Certification Program from S.Y 2016-2017. Findings: There were 165 datasets with five variables Pre-Test, Quizzes, Hands-on Skills Exam, Final Exam, and Remarks. The Data Mining process predicts the performance of the students in the certification program, individually, the J48 Algorithm derived from a C4.5 decision tree model. The results revealed that Quizzes had the highest instances of achieving a passing mark and became the first split between the (Finals<=79.67) and (Finals> 79.67) in predicting student Performance in the CISCO Certificate Program. Moreover, it showed the decision tree model Quizzes has the highest factor that students will get Passed, Failed, or Conditional marks. Application/Improvements: In order to obtain more precise results, we can employ other reputable data mining techniques and prediction algorithms or a combination of both to assess and guide student performance in future studies.
In a client-server architecture, a server is dedicated to providing various services, functions, and resources to serve its clients’ requests over a computer network. To understand and expertise this concept, a lot of exercises are critically needed. This aims to improve learners’ practical skills as well as to expand their knowledge. However, a real client-server network with the representative servers and network devices is costly. It is sometimes not available for the experiment and trial. In this case, a network simulator can be a reasonable substitute. This study uses Cisco Packet Tracer to simulate various server services such as DHCP, HTTP, DNS, FTP, Email, NTP, Firewall and IoT Registration Server. The mini-project simulation is proposed to explore the capabilities of the simulator to providing a wide range of server services. All settings and testing are visualized followed by the discussion of each result. It is expected that by practicing and mastering this mini-project simulation, learners can first build the client-server network using proper devices, wiring, naming, and addressing on a single monitor. Second, they can understand all the server parameters and then able to configure them step by step. And third, they can easily conduct testing, tracing and troubleshooting afterward. Furthermore, this work has a goal to build a bridge between network theory and practical aspects simultaneously so that learners will have a lot of confidence when working on a real network.
The Internet and computer networks make extensive
use of protocols. This paper is mainly focused on HTTP which is
one of the most important piece of application layer protocol.
Application layer is the topmost layer in OSI and TCP/IP model.
The general format of HTTP request and response messages in
real world are analyzed and captured by Wireshark. The actions
taken by the Web client and server as these messages are sent
and received are simulated and monitored using Packet Tracer.
