The paper presents the results obtained during the investigations carried out for the availability of selenium and trace elements (N i, Cd, Cr, B) to the soils of the Tikves region. Examination by ICP-AES method were carried out on fifty samples taken in the vicinity of the villages of Begniste, Resava, Vozarci, Drenovo, Sirkovo, Manastirec, Sivec,...

Cardiovascular diseases are a rampant public health threat. Environmental contaminants, such as Cadmium (Cd), a toxic metal, are risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Given that human exposure to Cd is increasing, there is a need for therapies to ameliorate Cd toxicity. Selenium (Se), an essential trace element, has been proposed to rescue the...

Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element for humans and its low or high concentration in vivo is associated with the high risk of many diseases. It is important to identify influential factors of Se status. The present study aimed to explore the association between several factors (Se intake, gender, age, race, education, body mass index (BMI),...

The amount of specific trace elements like selenium (Se) may be of health concern for humans if contained in too high (or low) quantities in staple foods like rice. Among the attempts aimed to optimize the Se concentration in rice, only few studies have been focused on the use of irrigation methods other than continuous flooding. Since intermittent...

Selenium is an essential trace element that plays a crucial role in various physiological activities, exerting a significant impact on human health. Selenium deficiency can lead to the development of several diseases, while excessive doses can be toxic. In recent years, there is a growing interest in elemental selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) due to...

In order to understand the transformation behaviors of selenium and cadmium during coal combustion, the kinetic studies were conducted by using an online analysis system of trace elements in flue gas. The analysis system is based on a modified inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and can measure the concentrations of t...

The main goal of these investigations is to determine the total content of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni and Co) in regosols and rendzinas formed on marl. An area of 11 ha was examined with excavation of two soil profiles, one regosol (prof. 1) and one rendzina soil profile (prof. 2) in the vicinity of village Timjanik (city of Negotino), Cucka locality. Soil samples were digested with “aqua regia” (1:3 ratio of concentrate HCl and HNO3). Determination of Cr and Ni was performed on atomic emission spectrometer with inductively couplet plasma Varian 715 ES, while Cd, Co and Pb with electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometer Varian 614 Z. The content of total lead and cadmium is lower than the referent values, while the content of total chromium and cobalt in some soil samples is a bit higher than the referent values. The content of total nickel is higher than the referent values, but less than the intervene values, except in the hor. Ap of prof. 2 where the content of total nickel was higher than the intervene values.
