Cities worldwide are seeking to enhance their sustainable mobility by reducing individual motorized transportation. While intermodal mobility-combining multiple transportation modes in one journey-is a key solution, individuals encounter challenges initiating intermodal journeys owing to the proliferation of mobility services. Providing accurate information at the right time is crucial amidst this complexity. While research has examined information needs for each mobility mode independently, the relationships between modes, phases, and information needs have barely been empirically investigated. Through a sequential mixed-method approach involving a literature review and a survey of >500 participants, this study identifies and validates the concept of phase-and mode chain-sensitive information needs. The findings provide initial insights, emphasizing phase relationships, mode chain relationships, and the interplays between phases and mode chains-a holistic understanding. This research can guide the design of more effective traveler information systems, aiding the shift toward sustainable urban mobility.

The concept of intermodality has gained key importance in the sustainable mobility strategy of the European Union. In the past two decades, different types of intermodal passenger terminals (IPTs) have been built in many European cities. These facilities provide possibility for passengers to change transportation mode or route in a short time and connect long-distance transportation services with public transportation modes under one roof. IPTs, however, are more than just hubs in the transportation network, but, due to their size and special location in the city, they are landmarks of cities. In addition, IPTs host not only transportation services but also different types of commercial and convenience services used both by passengers and local people. This study focuses on classifying IPTs based on their hierarchical position in the transportation network and determining which type is the most generally located in European mid-sized cities. Then, an investigation is carried out to map those commercial and convenience services that are the most installed in such IPT types. Finally, three European IPTs located in mid-sized cities and one in a large city are analysed to reveal the similarities and differences in the commercial and convenience services they host. This study found that such commercial and convenience services are most suitable for installation in IPTs that are related to transportation services, do not require a substantial amount of space, and do not block or obstruct the movement of people. Furthermore, as a component of the comprehensive planning documentation, a preliminary commercial feasibility study should be produced for each IPT.

As the world becomes more urbanized, there is a strong need for urban public transport to provide sustainable alternative solutions against private-vehicle usage. However, the opportunities for seamless journeys through public transport are still limited and the need for properly designed and operated transport interchanges is vital. The present paper investigates the perceptions and the users' level of satisfaction when using the New Railway Station of Thessaloniki in Greece and the Riga International Coach Terminal in Latvia, in terms of services provision and station's operation. In total, 36 indicators were tested, grouped in eight quality factors, namely travel information, wayfinding information, time and movement, access, comfort and convenience, station attractiveness, safety and security and emergency situation handling. Attitudinal surveys were implemented to determine key performance factors that affect travelers' satisfaction when using the two terminals. Data were collected through on-line questionnaires and were elaborated through descriptive and inferential statistics, including Mann-Whitney two-sample U-testing to assess differences between the samples in variables measured on a 5-point Likert scale, Spearman bivariate correlations to measure the strength of association between the quality indicators and multiple regression analyses to examine the effect of selected attributes on the general satisfaction level of travelers. Results showed that both interchanges perform better in physical quality attributes, like access, travel and wayfinding information provision, but they do not satisfy users' aesthetics expectations in the internal and external area of the interchanges and the surrounding area and they do not cover adequately their feeling of security and safety in the transfer or waiting areas. These results highlighted the users' preferences and concerns which contribute into a satisfactory overall design of the interchanges. In a nutshell, transport interchange design should satisfy both providing a hub for seamless mobility, but also integrating the station as a part of the public realm.

We propose an assessment methodology of interchanges, which is based on one of four multi-criteria decision aid method, the AHP method, allowing the ranking of interchanges from best to worst with regard to specific criteria. The selected criteria account for different evaluation aspects (social, technical, functional, environmental, and economic ones). The final ranking of the interchanges from best to worst allows making conclusions related to assessed elements of interchanges, which should be improved to make interchanges friendlier to the passengers. The proposed interchange assessment method allows the identification of the weakest elements of the assessed interchanges, which require improvement in order to make the interchanges friendlier for passengers, with a view to increasing the number of passengers and boosting passengers’ willingness to use the interchanges.

Pursuing three important elements including economic, safety, and traffic are the overall objective of decision evaluation across all transport projects. In this study, we investigate the feasibility of the development of city interchanges and road connections for network users. To achieve this goal, a series of minor goals are required to be met in advance including determining benefits, costs of implementing new highway interchanges, quantifying the effective parameters, the increase in fuel consumption, the reduction in travel time, and finally influence on travel speed. In this study, geometric advancement of Hakim highway, and Yadegar-e-Emam Highway were investigated in the Macro view from the cloverleaf intersection with a low capacity to a three-level directional intersection of the enhanced cloverleaf. For this purpose, the simulation was done by EMME software of INRO Company. The results of the method were evaluated by the objective of net present value (NPV), and the benefit and cost of each one was stated precisely in different years. At the end, some suggestion has been provided.

In the European Union, more than 70% of the population lives in urban areas. Achieving more efficient and low-carbon mobility is crucial to ensuring urban systems are sustainable and tackling important challenges, such as reduction of CO2 emissions, air and noise pollution, and traffic congestion. Identifying effective strategies and design solutions that boost multimodal mobility and effective interchange among different sustainable means of transport can be a significant contribution in this area. This paper presents an easy-to-use methodology to assess the performance of policy measures and design solutions-oriented to foster modal interchange, with special regard to the configuration of the interchange hubs. The methodology is based on identifying key factors necessary to ensure an efficient multimodal interchange and the different types of interchanges that are frequently present in the urban realm. By grouping the key factors into nine different domains, and by weighing the key factors in relation to their importance, the methodology creates a decision support system to assess the performance of the current interchange, as well as of different planning and design scenarios. This methodology has been developed in the framework of the Interreg Europe MATCH-UP project and is conceived to support both designers and decision-makers whenever they have to reorganise existing transport hubs and policies, or design and plan new ones.

This research raises a problem in Indonesia’s public services, with its relation to the scope of Public Administration Science. The study aims to analyze research articles in international journals with a time span from 2015 to 2019. The databases that the researchers used in the preparation of these scientific articles are Scopus and Taylor and Francis Group, which already have recognition from academics internationally. This study uses a qualitative research method with a literature review approach model in the form of a systematic mapping study. The research concludes that collaborative governance is most widely applied in public services, especially in the health sector. In addition, the method most commonly used is qualitative research methods with a case study approach
