... Another perspective to consider when it comes to supplier-switching is supplier de-selection. Supplier de-selection is when companies decide to end their relationship with suppliers that are falling short, or underperforming (Dubois et al., 2021). Therefore, companies must engage in an in-depth analysis of their financial implications in terms of changing suppliers. ...
The global advent of enterprises has been met with rapid acceleration alongside tremendous risks, with currency exposure being the single largest threat fans worldwide. In terms of dealing with these kinds of risks, one of the successful strategies is that of supplier diversification. Expanding the geography of suppliers and products allows for protection from adverse economic exposure as it lessens the effect of currency exchange rates, inflationary pressure, and political risk in some countries. This paper addresses the management of economic exposure through the use of supplier change and its implications for multinational corporations (MNCs). using a qualitative research methodology, this study draws on secondary sources to examine theoretical and practical insights into how supplier diversification can reduce economic risks for firms. The analysis includes 2 content from recent scholarly articles that assess the financial, operational, and strategic
... In the construction industry, it can be observed that some relationship continuity across projects exist (Crespin-Mazet et al., 2019; Havenvid et al., 2019) and it has been suggested that business partnerships enable construction players to profit from investments made across projects (Dubois, Gadde, & Mattsson, 2021). There is also an increased focus on partnership contracts, which are intended to strengthen the collaboration among project players, both within and between projects (Rahman, Faisol, Kamaruding, and Nusa, 2022; Crespin-Mazet, Goglio-Primard, Havenvid, and Linné, 2021). ...
The primary purpose of this study was to come up with the best fit model for relationship continuity in the construction sector in Davao Region in the context of employee engagement, top management commitment, and service quality. This study employed a stratified random sampling technique in selecting a total of 430 full time employees in various departments. An adapted standardized survey questionnaire published in scholarly journals was utilized as a primary data gathering instrument. This research utilized a descriptive non-experimental research design utilizing correlational and structural equation modeling approach as method of analysis. Results showed that employee engagement, top management commitment, service quality, and relationship continuity is related with each other. Furthermore, the generated model provide a new concept in the context of relationship continuity in the construction sector which is reinforced by top management commitment with the retained indicators: quality vision, resource allocation, quality policies and quality leadership and the employee engagement as defined by the remaining indicators: emotional engagement, rational identification, compatibility, team orientation and motivation.

... Definition of the supply base is twofold. Firstly, it is understood as a group of companies from which buyer purchases its goods and services during a specific time period [11]. Secondly, and also used by this paper, the supply base is a pool of qualified suppliers coordinated by a procuring company, which are meeting the conditions stated by procurer for assigning the contract [5]. ...
Technology innovations significantly determine supplier selection and competition in supply chains. We are enhancing current research using empirical data and examining new supplier effect on procurement performance in terms of (1) transparency (2) market structure (3) competition and (4) effect size. Through clustering, Mann–Whitney U tests, correlation effect size and CHAID classification algorithm we have found that a new potential supplier generates higher savings than only qualified suppliers in negotiation with higher effect in a transparent environment (additional 3.4% savings). We have identified the effect of the price premium for the procurer between 1.9 and 9.1% based on different procurement strategies.
... However, many PPs rely on short-term, three to seven year, contracts Torvatn and de Boer (2017) due to the legal obligation to frequently invite suppliers to tender, which often leads to supplier switching. Yet, surprisingly little research has been conducted on the switching process in general (Bygballe, 2017;Dubois and Gadde, 2020), and in the PP context specifically. ...
... Second, our illustrative case presents an example of a welldesigned service process created in public-private collaboration, a gap revealed in PP literature by Obwegeser and Müller (2018). The service process was designed with standardized components with well-integrated interface management practices in collaboration with the three focal actors, which made switching less complicated (Dubois and Gadde, 2020). Thus, such a collaboration can be regarded as a part of the ending strategy, specifically in time-bound (public-private) relationships, to ensure continuity in the service processes. ...
... Prior research on the supplier switching process is limited (Bygballe, 2017;Dubois and Gadde, 2020), thus our first and main contribution is the theory development through conceptualization of the switching process and a refined framework for the switching process, which we developed by Figure 4 Refined framework for supplier switching process integrating different research streams as follows: PP, purchasing and supply management and the IMP approach and by modifying the framework with the help of an illustrative example from an actual switching process. Existing research on relationship ending and beginning has investigated these two phases as separate phases of the buyer-supplier relationship (Bygballe, 2017) and the models of procurement processes do not discuss the phase in which the supplier is switched. ...
Purpose
This paper aims to develop a framework for switching a service supplier in a supply network.
Design/methodology/approach
The study builds on existing literature in the field of purchasing and supply management, public procurement (PP) and the Industrial Marketing and Purchasing approach, as well as on an illustrative example case, from the PP context, of a supplier switch in a service delivery process.
Findings
During a switching process, the buyer must simultaneously manage the ending of a relationship with the incumbent supplier and the beginning of a relationship with a new supplier. Collaboration with the focal suppliers to develop a service process with standardized components prevents disruptions in the service processes and reduces the impact of the switch on the wider network.
Research limitations/implications
The conceptualization suggested in this paper needs to be further explored in different empirical contexts to assess its practical adequacy.
Practical implications
Practitioners responsible for service procurement can use the findings to develop collaboration with suppliers, both when it comes to service process development and to the switching process. Furthermore, the authors highlight the importance of ending competencies and the development of an exit plan to conduct a “beautiful exit.”
Originality/value
The paper integrates relationship initiation and ending studies, as well as procurement process models to develop a refined switching process framework. Many PPs rely on short-term relationships due to the legal obligation to frequently invite suppliers to tender, thus understanding the supplier switching process is important both for private and public sector actors.
Purpose
Based on the resource orchestration perspective, this study aims to explore whether and how strategic supply management (SSM) affects firms’ operational performance (OP) and innovation performance (IP).
Design/methodology/approach
Survey data comprising 404 valid responses are collected from traditional manufacturing firms in China. Confirmatory factor analysis confirms the reliability and validity of the measures. Structural equation modeling and bootstrapping are used to test all hypotheses.
Findings
SSM improves firms’ OP and IP. Furthermore, supply base resource mobilization (SBRM) and supply market resource mobilization (SMRM) have partial mediating effects on the relationships. SBRM has a greater effect on OP, while SMRM has a greater effect on IP. In addition, these two types of resource mobilization form different mediating paths between SSM and firm performance, and environmental uncertainty positively moderates this relationship.
Originality/value
With the development of national innovation strategies such as the “Made in China 2025” plan, the Chinese manufacturing industry aims to move from low-cost manufacturing to innovative and high-quality manufacturing. The study’s findings further emphasize the role of purchasing and supply management in external resource management. In addition to demonstrating the differential effects of heterogeneous resource mobilization on OP and IP, different mediation pathways through external resources mobilization are identified in the relationship between SSM and firm performance.
