The findings of this study, a cross-sectional exploratory survey, which was conducted in Ho Chi MinhCity’s universities, explore the Vietnamese psychology undergraduates’ attitude towards research. It was hypothesized that students hold a positive attitude towards different aspects of research. 261 students, including 68 males and 193 females, part...

... L opez et al. (2023) also pointed out that females received better scores in the cognitive and behavioral domains than males, indicating that females tend to show stronger inclinations and propensities toward research due to their superior academic performance and favorable attitudes toward the research process, as compared to their male counterparts. However, other studies revealed the opposite: there was no significant difference in research attitude between male and female students in the fields of dental (Habib et al., 2018), medical (Imran et al., 2019), and psychology (Tran-Chi et al., 2019). Gredig et al. (2020) examined social work students' attitudes toward research courses, specifically their research interests and fears, focusing on students from Australia and Switzerland. ...
... In our study, as indicated by the results of a one-way MANOVA, there were no statistically significant differences in students' research attitudes based on gender. This research was conducted in the field of education, and the findings were consistent with those of other areas such as dental (Habib et al., 2018), medical (Imran et al., 2019), and psychology (Tran-Chi et al., 2019) disciplines. It is possible that male and female genuinely possess similar attitudes toward research in our context because of their perceptions to research being more directly aligned with their career aspirations as teachers. ...

Purpose This study scrutinizes the attitudes of postgraduate students specializing in education toward research at one University of Education in Myanmar. Design/methodology/approach Having collected data from 121 Master in Education (MEd) students in three education departments, the study validated Papanastasiou's (2014) Revised-Attitude toward Research (R-ATR) scale by performing confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). A one-way MANOVA was used to establish the significance of mean differences between groups and ANOVA was used for the same purpose among groups. Findings The R-ATR scale is fit with the sample (χ ² /df = 1.60), and the students' attitudes toward research are favorable with mean value for research usefulness (5.98), positive research predispositions (5.55) and research anxiety (3.61), despite feeling stressed and anxious. There was a significant difference in the students' attitudes toward research regarding their departments, while no significant difference was found based on their research experience, gender and age. Practical implications There should be an effective mechanism in implementing the research course and in online delivery mode, collaboration between the faculties in the process of revision and review of the research courses, effective strategies of improving research instructors' quality and also internationalization to sustain students' positive attitudes toward research and to reduce their stress and anxiety. Originality/value This research is empirically novel, and the initiative attempts to first use the R-ATR scale in teacher education in Myanmar.
... Another study Babalis, Xanthakou, Kaila, & Stavrou, 2012), showed the opposite, that there was no significant difference in research attitude and creative thinking between male and female students. Several other studies also suggested similar results in dental students (Habib, AlOtaibi, Abdullatif, & AlAhmad, 2018) medical students (Imran et al., 2019) and psychology students (Tran-Chi et al., 2019). Furthermore, some studies explored that level of education is an important factor affecting research attitude in undergraduates. ...

Scientific research is extremely significant in nearly every element of modern life. Students at the undergraduate college or university level tend to perceive research-related courses with both positive and negative emotions. However, the previous studies mainly focus on positive attitudes; to our knowledge, few research explored the negative attitude of undergraduate students. This study investigates both positive and negative attitudes of the Vietnamese undergraduate students towards research. A total of 1067 respondents were sampled and who completed the Attitudes Toward Research Scale questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, Pearson correlation, and an analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the reliability of the scales was high and acceptable; and the validity of the scales was good and acceptable fit. There were both positive and negative attitudes toward research among undergraduates. Significant differences were seen between gender, school year, research experience, and continued study groups. Male students, who had research experience, and those who continued study had more positive attitudes than others. This study presents several theories for comparison and explanation with prior research. In addition, colleges must place a greater emphasis on teaching and scientific research in order to provide students with essential information and enhance their attitudes toward scientific research.

Attitude towards chemistry not only enhances students' chemical perception but is also extremely important because it manifests the interests and emotions towards studying chemistry by students. The main objective of this study is to examine high school students' attitudes toward learning chemistry. The group of 870 high school students (382 males and 488 females) from nine high schools in Vietnam participated in the survey. They completed a 29-item questionnaire about their attitude towards chemistry, chemistry teachers and non-formal chemistry education. The results of this study indicated that there were significant differences in gender and grade level on students' attitude towards learning chemistry. Twelfth grade had a more positive attitude towards chemistry teachers than eleventh grade and tenth grade. There was not a significant multivariate effect for interaction between gender and grade level. All results obtained from this research are necessary for educating and enhancing student's attitude towards science, especially chemistry.
